It's so tiny, it's nice

Very nice!

@ throknor - Just to make sure, I went into the file folder and double checked. Everything is where it should be. The .mdl, and the Lod2 msh.blobs are there and correctly referenced by the .mdl. As far as the bls_windows_01.mtl, that's not mine. That belongs to some other mod. Did your new install include deleting everything inside your Transport Fever folder? There's something left over from the previous version of this caboose somewhere. I'm really sorry for all the trouble this has caused you. Let me know what happens. We'll try something else if we have to.
throknor 2 May, 2018 @ 9:03pm
Tried it. Even did a new install on a clean system. The files simply aren't appearing.
modelcitizen  [author] 2 May, 2018 @ 4:06pm
@ throknow - I think I'd unsubscribe and re-subscribe and see what that does. Sounds to me like it didn't get updated correctly. Hope that does it.
throknor 1 May, 2018 @ 6:16pm
It took me a little to track it down to this one, as you timed it with an update to the Beta I'm testing. That being said caboose_1850_cupola.mdl seems to be missing from the directory entirely. stdout.txt points to a different path. Any thoughts?

@GrijzePilion - I just hope there's not a parade of angry subscribers behind you. haha

I don't know what I'd do without the glorious, utterly chaotic yet realistic, metropolitan cobweb of a railway network that characterizes my current save.
modelcitizen  [author] 27 Apr, 2018 @ 4:49pm
@GrijzePillion - Whew! Glad it worked.
A Guy Called Pi 27 Apr, 2018 @ 4:47pm
Yeah that did it. Thanks!
modelcitizen  [author] 27 Apr, 2018 @ 4:25pm
@GrijzePillion - Open res / models / model / vehicle / wagon / usa / caboose_1850_cupola.mdl in a text editor. Also open the game's default boxcar .mdl. This is gonna be a copy / paste thing. The section of the .mdl you are looking for is the "transportVehicle" section of the .mdl. You want to copy the "capacities" section of "transportVehicle" from the boxcar and paste is over the "seats" section of the caboose. The game probably crashed because the caboose was probably carrying something and now it's not able. I was still learning how to configure railcars when I made this caboose and didn't know any better. Hope this fixes it.
A Guy Called Pi 27 Apr, 2018 @ 4:04pm
Uh, yeah, I'll forgive you. It's not like you murdered my dog or something. It's nothing. I mean you improved the mod didn't you? My game just didn't like it. I know how to mod the config files, but if you could tell me what I'll need to add back in that'd be great. Thanks!
modelcitizen  [author] 27 Apr, 2018 @ 4:02pm
@GrijzePillion - I hope you'll forgive me. I had no idea any savegames would be ruined when I upgraded this. The only way (that I know of) to save your game would to add the cargo capacities back in, which defeats the reason for the upgrade. There is a way to alter your mod manually that would probably work if you're interested. It would involve opening up the mod file in a text editor and making a small change. Let me know. Again, I'm sorry about this. Thought I was doing good.
A Guy Called Pi 27 Apr, 2018 @ 3:23pm
I'd really like it if my save weren't broken because of one tiny mod.
A Guy Called Pi 27 Apr, 2018 @ 3:21pm
Cool. But it just broke my save. What do I do?
modelcitizen  [author] 27 Apr, 2018 @ 1:03pm
UPDATE: Version 1.2: Removed cargo capacity. FINALLY!
Stormlover_51 16 Apr, 2018 @ 4:17pm
Looks great at the end of my early steam freights. Thank you modelcitizen, love your work.

I know this is a late reply, but even after the advent of the air brake in the US and it's requirement on all trains the caboose served a valid function over than braking. Spare crews were housed inside during long haul trips, also they served as lookout points for the telltale signs of Hotboxes. Hotboxes for those not familiar with railroad lingo basically refers to overheating axles that have or are threatening to seize up. These are very grave concerns because an axle that's seized can literally get hot enough to melt itself apart and derail a train, prior to the advent of trackside detectors for hotboxes one of the biggest indicators of a hotbox was smoke coming off an axle, thus a conducter in the caboose was on constant lookout for the warning signs before a potential hotbox could progress that far.....
Crazy Caribbean 15 Apr, 2017 @ 3:52pm
@ApolloChewbacca While that would make sense early on, having a caboose would be pointlest later, other than astetic. Cabooses, or breakvans, were originally only there because brakes for the cars of a train that could be controlled from the locomotive cab didn't exists. Brakes in the caboose were there just to supplement the braking power of the engine.

thats great news i love the look and functionality of this one already and i would love to keep using them through my playthrough. it is definitely something that i think transport fever should have added in the first place as a requirement for every train just like an engine.

ApolloChewbacca
It's going slowly, but I'm working on a 1900-1950 era caboose right now. Gonna try and add an interior and transparent windows if all goes well. Thanks :)
ApolloChewbacca 23 Mar, 2017 @ 6:23pm
i love this caboose. is there anyway you could add in another cabosse that is a little more modern maybe? i really want to keep using this later on because i love the look, but i dont want it to be slowing down my trains later on. outstanding work though
trunky 10 Mar, 2017 @ 4:04pm
rename the file caboose_1850_cupola_Lod2.msh to all lower case please, then it works with Linux/Mac. Nice work else!
Snowstorm 15 Feb, 2017 @ 11:39am
Thanks to Donoteat, there's a caboose unlocking at 1942.
So all we need is a 1904-1942 gap filler caboose.
modelcitizen  [author] 2 Feb, 2017 @ 10:33pm
patrick2160,
Hoping to start an era b (1900 - 1950) caboose soon and more American and UK crossings, but that's all I have planned right now. Thanks for your comments. I'm ashamed to say it, but I had to Google "brake van" to find out what that was. :-)
Railgunner2160 2 Feb, 2017 @ 8:01am
Very nice! Any plans to make a UK/European brake van?
jrcam4643 18 Jan, 2017 @ 10:36pm
Awesome.
modelcitizen  [author] 18 Jan, 2017 @ 10:36pm
Version 1.1 Color can now be changed.
jrcam4643 7 Jan, 2017 @ 1:31pm
Main thing I would like to see would be the capacity changed to 4. And a passenger version would cool to. And the other suggestions are good to. I hope you buld on this and add more later versions.
Elijah1 6 Jan, 2017 @ 3:49am
and make a more moderin one
Elijah1 6 Jan, 2017 @ 3:49am
well i like it but it needs to be biger
Whiskers 3 Jan, 2017 @ 5:15pm
Good but I would prefer a bigger one with cupola and red or yellow.
Heinekn 30 Dec, 2016 @ 3:40am
I have been asking for a Caboose back to Train Fever. Thanks for doing this one for TPF.

I could never understand that you could have a Train Sim without a Caboose.

So...we need one in Red, of course. Could you add the variation p[lease?

Anyway...thatnks again.

Jerry

Wobblybee 29 Dec, 2016 @ 4:32pm
I did find one error, and in my personal opinion it's a big one. It's not paintable. It'd be really nice to have a yellow or red caboose on the end of my train instead of plain gray.
Nico 29 Dec, 2016 @ 8:05am
at least a couple modern ones to complete the time spance
Nico 29 Dec, 2016 @ 8:04am
more please. I'm serprised that there hasn't been any untill this point. thanks :)
Wobblybee 28 Dec, 2016 @ 12:10am
OH I'm so happy finally a caboose! My freight trains will be complete!! Please add latewr ones if you could!
Herrbear 27 Dec, 2016 @ 4:04pm
Great addition. Thank you.
Abbittibbi 27 Dec, 2016 @ 9:44am
Yes, I really wanted that item, thanks a lot. Very appreciated.

Finally! :steamhappy:
mallard4468 27 Dec, 2016 @ 3:25am
Wohoo! Finally a Caboose! Had waited quite some time for one of these little fellows to show up :D
Hiigara 27 Dec, 2016 @ 1:38am
