I still don't know why this happens since I followed the standard procedure of uploading maps, but it seems to be a common issue. One quick look at the Discussions board shows that you can probably find it in "\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS" The file should be a " .civvmappack " You need to copy that into "\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Maps"

It's not showing up anywhere for either me or my friend.

You will find it in "Additional maps"

The map is not showing up in the map list.
