I REALLY want this to happen. I love organising my backpack but moving hundreds of items around 16+ pages of backpack is EXTREMELY slow and annoying

Yea, this post is coming in like a year and a half late, but to herpington, why don't you move, oh, I don't know, 400 items in your backpack into different spots and organize them all, one at a time.

I love how you honestly believe you're the first to think "Hey, this would be great!". It hasn't been done for a reason.

@dj_computrdude I know that the actual movement of each item can be timed, so there's no overload, but actually there is some extra job that the server will make, like evaluating how many items are being moved, the order of the items, which destination spaces are empty and which have items, etc. Since in TF2 there are really expensive items, then all this job will be necessary to ensure the integrity of your items after the whole process, imagine your Burning Team captain being deleted, because of a memory fail in the server, or because the item server went down during the movement..

a solution can be handling the multiple items in the client side, but I doubt this will ever happen since handling items in the client but this will be a security breach, people will start duplicating items or worst, that's why your backpack actually is in steam server, not in your hard drive.

A good idea is that for each item you will need to wait a second or 2 seconds, to avoid overloading item server, but well that needs to be evaluated by the programmers, maybe it was already analyzed...

@duke Hugem even with it being a database it wouldn't be that hard to queue up so when they shift click to move multiple items on screen its shows them instantly moved. It moves them in the database one at a time like how it is now it just queue's up the calls to move the items it involves basically no more server work then what is already there for when a person decides to move x amount of items around. (hope that make sense)

seeing this just as a graphical matter it seems very easy, but if you think of it as a programmer it's quite difficult, your backpack is a database in the ítem sever, moving multiple ítems will imply creating a queue of data, this will be less work for you more work for the server, while actual systems is more work for you, less work for the server in order to optimize performance and support more players
