Both this and the sand conversion mod were pretty thoughtful additions that I'm a bit surprised weren't in Vanilla Starbound.

I would like to request a mod that turns dirt into sand (if one doesn't already exist), since I believe it's also a realistic feature (and would give players earlier access to sand, and thus earlier access to glass, through drying out the dirt).

@V Glad you find the mod useful! It's definitely something that should have been in the vanilla game imo.
V 18. feb. 2023 kl. 9:23
Thank you so much for this mod. Having MUD as an absolute restriction of being able to progress is actually annoying. 4 mud, thats it! And planets don't spawn with it. :c
Exelsiar 19. jan. 2023 kl. 2:51
Ok thanks anyway :)
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 19. jan. 2023 kl. 2:11
@Exelsiar I haven't played the game in years, so it's unlikely that I'll update the mod further. Sorry! :sad_creep:
Exelsiar 18. jan. 2023 kl. 23:21
Would it be possible to add frozen dirt?
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 6. juli 2022 kl. 17:31
@Juroguy Johnson It should. I'm pretty sure I played a bit after the last major update and it was working fine. if you find a bug, though, please let me know.
Juroguy Johnson 6. juli 2022 kl. 11:41
Still works i hope?
Spece 1. aug. 2021 kl. 1:23
this mod is a little Dirty (get it)

lol
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 5. nov. 2017 kl. 1:40
@Tymon Yeah, that was the main reason I made the mod to begin with. It's such a simple operation and I have no idea why CF didn't include it in vanilla. Glad I could be of help!

@Bobby Yeah, I'll put all my mods on maybe the CF forums or whatever in December. Sorry for making you wait so long!
Bobby 11. sep. 2017 kl. 10:14
Can you please provide a Non-Steam download for those which have not bought Starbound on Steam (f.e. GOG)?
Tymon 23. aug. 2017 kl. 15:15
I have the ability to teleport across entire galaxies instantly to a simple flag marker. I have the ability to create near indestructable alloys and fashion them into lethal energy weapons. I have the ability to build, or destroy entire worlds with a beam that can manipulate things down to the very mollecular structures.

Mixing dirt and water to make mud though? Nope, that's too much to ask, can't do it.

This is literally what Starbound is like without this mod.
Tymon 23. aug. 2017 kl. 14:52
Furnace requires mud to craft. starting planet that I started on has tons of dirt, a lot of water, but for the life of me I can't find mud... Yet, you cannot make dirt into mud in the game by default. WTF Chucklefish, why is this mod's function not in the game by default?
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 10. maj 2017 kl. 22:16
@tranz2deep NP. It only took a few minutes to do. :tgrin:
tranz2deep 10. maj 2017 kl. 17:16
Thank you, Miss Andri! :steamhappy:
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 8. maj 2017 kl. 21:57
@TheDarkJediKnight It's actually not super unusual to have multiple mods that do similar things. And it makes sense that people might want a Sand Conversion mod that has similar recipe styles to my Dirt Conversion. Which is why I actually went ahead and made a Sand Conversion mod. :flowey:
TheDarkJediKnight 28. apr. 2017 kl. 21:44
@ 'sand conversion mod requests'

...you do know there's already a mod like that in existance, right?
Even right here on Steam.
tranz2deep 5. feb. 2017 kl. 11:39
@Cupcake King

Useful for farmers, though.
NerdCuddles 26. jan. 2017 kl. 18:15
useless mod if your not a builder
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 26. jan. 2017 kl. 3:57
@tranz2deep It's on my list of things to make when I get back to mod making. It should be pretty easy, so it's on the top of my list.

And, yeah, bottles being consumed is pretty baffling from a realism perspective. It's pretty typical for these kinds of games, but I feel like it wouldn't hurt the balance to have consumables output empty bottles. I'm not sure if Starbound's game engine is set up to handle that, though.
tranz2deep 22. jan. 2017 kl. 17:44
I have a question. Is it possible to have a similar mod for sand conversion?

In all honesty, dry sand should be smeltable into glass to start with, but it is not. and I have no doubt wet sand isn't, either. So damping it down or drying it up to useful sand is a good idea.

(Incidentally, why in the name of God can't you save the bottles when you drink water or such?)

Bones 1. nov. 2016 kl. 9:45
Any chance you can make a version of this for sand??? (loose silt and wet sand to sand for glass etc)
Achassion 31. okt. 2016 kl. 14:33

@Garrus Er, sorry, was trying to continue in the spirit of your Floran comment (since Florans are hunters). I guess I dropped the humor ball on that one o.o;;
737✈Garrus 31. okt. 2016 kl. 7:42
@Miss Andri

{Excellent. I heard that the blood of your enemies makes great fertilizer for your big garden}

???
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 31. okt. 2016 kl. 1:13
@john_jenkins1995 Thanks :) That sounds like a good suggestion, why don't you post it on the FU Quality of Life thread ? It might be something they can implement.

@Garrus Excellent. I heard that the blood of your enemies makes great fertilizer for your big garden. :flowey:

@tinyplasticgreyknight Thanks! I'm glad you like it :happy_creep:

@awesomebenb It is a mystery. 👻

@Z.E.T. Ok, I'll see what I can do. My vacation time is over today so I can't promise to get anything done swiftly, though ^^;;

@Sera Starbound mods are srs bsns. ლ(☉౪ ⊙)ლ
summus artifex 29. okt. 2016 kl. 20:25
What bob said got me thinking. Perhapse the developer of FU could impliment a system that makes fluids disable the paint on a block before anything else, and then add a delay between removing any paint and converting one material to any other. Removing paint can be considered a fail safe to prevent the paint and conversion system from causing game crashing errors. By the way nice concept for material changing andri.
737✈Garrus 29. okt. 2016 kl. 15:54
Floran sad. Floran have wrong dirts. Floran convert dirts. Floran happy. Floran make big garden. Floran happier!
tinyplasticgreyknight 28. okt. 2016 kl. 16:49
This is an excellent example of the kind of mod I like:
* small, does just one thing and does it well (not like the "everything-but-the-kitchen-sink" mods, which should really be a collection of related smaller mods)
* combines existing game elements in interesting ways (as opposed to merely introducing new elements)
* can be added/removed to a game in progress without screwing up the save file, since it only oversees interactions

Keep up the good work!
Benjome 28. okt. 2016 kl. 12:47
is this mod useful at all?
Achassion 28. okt. 2016 kl. 10:40
@Miss Andri, yes, for any wood you'd use Wood + Living Root (Because Science!) + Material (Ex : Rainbow Wood : Wood + Living Root + All dyes)
「 Cloudy Overcast」 28. okt. 2016 kl. 4:02
are u serious?
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 27. okt. 2016 kl. 21:30
@Bob of Mage I have something similar for vanilla assets called Better Crafted Blocks and I'm not adverse to doing an FU version of it sometime in the future, but tbh there are a lot of blocks I still want to do that are vanilla compatible so I'm probably going to focus on that for now.
Bob of Mage 27. okt. 2016 kl. 20:42
So it might be worthwhile to create some non-standred blocks to allow players that run that mod (there are a lot of them) to pretty up there bases. The devs of FU said they can't really fix the issue (and even if they could they have a ton of stuff on their to-do list) and that CF itself will likely have to solve it.

Just saying since it would be something that would have a large number of players that would benfit from it. Also I'm pretty sure Sayter (the lead dev of FU) is fine with people making add on for use with FU.
Bob of Mage 27. okt. 2016 kl. 20:42
From what I've heard things can be a bit touchy when it comes to playing online and using mods.

Now speaking of mods, I think I know something that could be useful that shouldn't be too complex. One of the biggest mods, Frackin' Universe, has an issue with painted blocks. Liquid interactions with blocks is in Starbound's code but is largely unused. Now in FU when say lava touchs cobblestone it transforms into red-hot cobblestone. If said stone block was painted, as say part of a famcy base, it would lead to an error that would render the whole planet unuseable (game crashes when you beam down). FU has a ton of liquids and a ton of block types they interact with so disabling it is not really worth it if the cost is limited painting of blocks.
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 27. okt. 2016 kl. 19:15
Thanks and good luck with playing with your friend! :happy_creep:
Evanas2319 27. okt. 2016 kl. 19:08
alright, thanks! it's a nice mod though. :)
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 27. okt. 2016 kl. 19:03
@Evanas I don't play multiplayer so I'm not sure, but my guess is that you'll be able to play together without problems (caveat: you'll have the ability to convert the dirt but your friend won't).
Lieutenant Cosbycon 27. okt. 2016 kl. 16:26
this is dirty af ;^)
Evanas2319 27. okt. 2016 kl. 15:44
i know this might sound like a stupid question, but idk much about modding. will this work if i'm playing with someone that doesn't use mods? as i said before, sorry if i sound dumb, i just don't know a lot of stuff that has to do with files and types of files, etc.
Bob of Mage 27. okt. 2016 kl. 9:50
Yeah I was thinking that myself after I posted the comment.
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 27. okt. 2016 kl. 2:01
@Bob of Mage That would be pretty cool, but I have a feeling it's impossible. AFAIK the block behaviors are hard coded (ie. not moddable).
Bob of Mage 26. okt. 2016 kl. 20:44
What's really needed is some sort of block that allows a player pass, but not stuff like water, lava, or shadow gas.
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 25. okt. 2016 kl. 20:05
@Z.E.T. What do you mean? Like converting regular wood logs to rainbow wood or whatever?
Achassion 25. okt. 2016 kl. 7:40
Miss Andri if you were to fucos on Building I'd reccomend to do a wood mod of these, Craft different woods using normal + material.
Cthonyxa  [ophavsmand] 25. okt. 2016 kl. 4:11
Glad y'all like the mod :) [Ch0cOLate_B1T3]4nDy_BAdAs5_1.2, did you have something in particular in mind for a mod? I tend to focus more on building so I probably wouldn't do a weapons mod, but I have been thinking of trying my hand at making objects (probably start with a racial kitchen counter mod or something) so I'm open to suggestions on that front.
