Love this mod. But it seems to have stopped working. Last 2 games I played, the tech tree showed snipers at the beginning, but later when I was close to getting them, they had disappeared from the tech tree. Weird.

@Defcon1 Not initially, it's smart to work in pairs, but squadrons have proved to be strong in the past

"Vanilla" typically means the base or store released version of the game. This mod is for that version of the game, where you do not own or have downloaded DLC. If you own or have downloaded the Gods and Kings or Brave New World expansions, don't use this version of the mod. Find the version for either of those.

This mod is good! I like the snipers because their strength is reasonable and they are useful in combat.

Alright, it took me longer than it should have but I have now updated the mod to make the English Longbowman upgrade into the Sniper. You probably won't keep its range bonus though.

It would be cool if there is some way to keep ranged chivalry working from classical era until modern era. If done it would keep war chariot and keshik promotions useful through entire game.

Could you make the snipers like the submarines, low in strength but high in attack power.
Snipers get 25 or 30 attack and modern snipers get 35 or 40.
Snipers should have heavy power against all infantry personel like in rl.

This is a fun little mod. However, by replacing a melee unit with a ranged one it's possible that around mid-game you might find yourself with only something like Lancers for assaulting occupied cities. I was using the Artificer mod, which converts some armor to ranged, and I was in deep trouble until I disabled snipers.

Could you make the modern sniper use the paratrooper model but with two guys? It looks weird seeing a squad of WWI trench soldiers as "modern" snipers. Also, the sniper rifle icons look too similar to each other. I suggest the AS50 for the modern sniper unit since it is very distinct and modern looking.

I think you need to add the English Long Bow to the sniper upgrade path. Otherwise I love the mod.

The range is too far and IMO you should have only 2 units in the graphic (spotter and shooter) but other than that I like it.

Good mod, but the first sniper icon ought to be re-worked a little bit to match the unit's appearance. The helmets ought to match, and the sight needs changing. That's my only complaint. Keep up the good work!

the modern sniper rilfe can fire up to 2 miles away and hit its targets so could this unit fire 3 tiles away but be shit at attacking cities? would be awsome if it could

well, I would myself add only SNIPER promotion. It means that infantry unit will be able to do ranged attack, not strong, maybe 15 to 20 ranged attack. This promotion will be only aviable for infantry units. And you don't need another type of infantry. If I would add some special type of infantry it would be engineers (with bonus to destroy tanks, city attack bonus, and when a front of river they will act like bridge (road) for all units want to pass)

Perhaps it should be renamed sharpshooter and sniper. I know I liked the mass group of snipers, and renaming them sharpshooters sorta makes it feel plausable for large numbers. The modern sniper did need the numbers reduced though. BTW, Love this mod. + Fav

It was made and balanced for vanilla. Now that I have G&K myself I see how much stronger infantry has gotten. I might do a G&K version later.

Good Idea! but the modern sniper is too weak...Launching cats out of a sling shot would do more damage.

Lord Nanfoodle, jcassell: The mod has now been updated to have a maximum of four units per formation. The formation type for the earlier Sniper has also been changed to make it look more loose.
