awful mood, it messes with AI cores spawn in labs and they DONT spawn at all it spawns copper alloy instead of them
was wandering why i found 2 AI cores after clearing all guaranteed AI cores spawn (shold ve had like 15)
dont use it, its way way easier to find them then try to craft with 1000 books => AI core rate (im not joking)

idk but book binder need "parchment" for books, but there is no parchment craft station in the mod

Still works but I often run in the issue of crafting materials disappearing as I put them in the book binder or engineering plans crafting table

Works amazingly.
The one huge issue I have with it is the limit on paper being made from Hemp.
I live in a location where I cannot grow hemp without hydroponics.
All I've got is Iron, Copper, Water, and Cactus.

You should, for world wide balance reasons, be able to make Stacks of Paper out of more plant types. The one I'm gonna vouch for the hardest here is Cactus because it's what I have.

Here's a (heavily bugged) article about using cactus to 1. Make alcohol, and 2. Make paper. One of these is already in Kenshi.

To save you part of the hassle of even trying to use this website, the "People also ask" section of the google page gave me a quote from that article which says

"Can paper be made from cactus?
It has- been demonstrated that ' the- pulp' of the. leaves, is good for paper making. : '."

Alright, I've given ample time with no response. Unfortunate, but eventually we all want to move on to newer things and modding different games. Thank you ForgeDrake for having made this, I'll pick up the torch from here then.


The refurbished mod has been uploaded, a few things have been changed as detailed in the description, and this is not a final version by any means. I'm willing to try to rebalance things out or make changes if the suggestions are sensible and detailed, so don't be afraid to ask.


I will support the mod as long as I can and as long as people have interest in it. I haven't done a ton of testing with it since I lack good save files for it, so if you have suggestions on things that can be tweaked, including a good save file would be awesome. @Hammer I don't wish to undermine ForgeDrake, but as an active Steam user that has now moved onto Empyrion, I for one would assume he would not be offended by the notion that another has taken the mantle & refurbished his mod. More so, could I get a copy of your tweaked edition prior to an official release? ^_^;;

@Hammer actually nothing to do with this mod, but I am trying to get my head wrapped around the FCS for mods and working on another old one which doesnt get updated and see if I could get it to work but I need some starting help, any chance of a short crash course in FCS and where to find the datas via Steam/Teamspeak ?

I've given my fixes testing and they seem to work like a charm. I'd like to be courteous and give the original author until June to respond with his intentions (if he intends on fixing the mod himself and continuing to update it) before I do a reupload, since this is still technically his mod. If he states he has no further intention of supporting the mod, or he does not comment by June, I will reupload the mod and, to the best of my ability, support it through Kenshi's updates.


One of the changes I did make though, is the paper press using cotton instead of hemp. Seed fibres are commonly used to make paper, so hemp never made much sense to me (especially since, IIRC, hemp and biproducts of hemp are mostly illegal in the game. Since books would be made out of them, it would mean books would be illegal... so yeah.)

I've actually been cleaning up and rebuilding the mod last night. I still have a little testing to do with it. The stations definitely didn't have interaction nodes on them, but this could be because a couple years ago interaction nodes attached to crafting stations weren't a thing yet. It was mostly just remaking the stations since the base fields for what they duplicated had changed. I also saw what seemed to be an unfinished attempt to convert some of the crafting from refinery functionality to actual craft functionality... that would have been pretty interesting to see!


I don't want to release my version of the file without your permission since it's still your mod. The fixes weren't really hard, just kinda tedious... I can't imagine how much of a pain it was to update this mod every time Kenshi updated something with the FCS.

I would also be interested in seeing a remake or update to this, because I'm allergic to book hunting and would prefer crafting or buying the books. I looked in to the problem of not having the original mod file to work with anymore, and I was able to get a hold of where Steam Workshop sticks it, if you're at all interested in updating the mod in the near future ForgeDrake. no clue honestly I uploaded this 2-3 years ago as a stop gap measure to stop people from having to redo there game to unlock all researches

but I've since lost the orginal files meaning I can't go in to find out any info on it anymore without a fully remake of it

so im haveing a issue with the ink station not working automaticly, it dosent seem to have the interaction points on it and my men wont auto craft ink, also every structure in this mood likes to eat product (i put 12 iron and water into the ink station to get it up to 5) is this intended or have i fucked something up

that also takes into account your near a shop or playing a style that it works with - also it takes into account your a high enough lvl to have money for said shops and have chars who can survive reaching them

this mod was just to add 1 extra way to do it - also back when orginally made it was impossible to buy books from anyone and you had to import old saves so you could loot enough books (5-6 times) to research everything

like i said: its agreat mod. but only if you resist the temptation to just shell out monexy to buy the books instead of making them .

building the supply and infrastructure is no easily done.
and any mod that changes core mechanics (like the prisoner recruitment mod) can be abused.

this mod is a great addition, at last fo me it is

this mod did come out first in 2014 and was redone in 2016 also it was meant to always be more balanced then just buy books

i am also annoyed by this fact (hauling books and grabbing them is just not possible), but I also the manual need to manage it balances it in a way. this mod makes major reseacrh available so fast and quick.. so this kind of "balance" is not too bad.

although: when using mods like "shops have more items" or something like that. you can buy soo many books that this tresearch mod is just not needed

its cause there is no default book storage as such I can't fix it - its a core game issue

simply put the mechanic to auto grab a book (since they have a category) does not exsist - where as ink/paper actually was a item (I copied data from a item that had shelf data) so they understand how to auto grab that

long story short your talking about 100+ hours of modding that I'd have to do 100+ hours of modding every update and the mod would break every update they changed any id numbers as such I felt 20 secs of grabbing books was more viable then a mod that broke every 1-2 weeks requireing me to never sleep again lols

Hey I have a problem with ancient books. It seems like the characters can never properly follow the process of making an ancient book without manual intervention at the point of picking up new books from the book case to complete the creation of a qued ancient book. please fix as i love this mod

it will be a bit still I've got few areas I want the game to fill in before I start on the larger update since I want diplomacy / the ability to join a faction - the ability to claim citys - full map - ect

what I'm really planning is crafting my own faction with its own style of weapons (mostly lore/effects then new models) a outpost / friendly city / and personal city tech upgrades and 2-3 game starts

yeah I mostly just don't have the time to tweak it to each setting and micro update so decided to just rebuild the entire thing when the full maps out that way I could make some mini shops as well with a new faction

yeah basically it can require several hundred books to make a ai core - now this is a good bit but it was always meant to take time so they were not simple to get

I had a automated book storage system but a update broke it only way to fix is to wipe the mod and completly restart and I've just not had the time - I am making a mod that will combine my ironclad errant start / city living / research mods as well as several new items but I've been busy / interested in other games at this moment so havn't finished it yet

thats actually a game mechanic issue caused by a update a few months ago nothing I can do about it - I am however building a larger mod that will have a remake of this in it with a built from scratch ideal that should end all the issue - but short of a full rebuild I can't fix this glitch

I like the mod @DataForged but I have one issue, whiel I think the amount of books it takes is understandable to make an AI core I feel that you need to some how resolve the issue with the book case where they will put books in but they will not pull books out to work on the next version. Example: 10 books in book case, you ask him to make an Advanced science book he will go to the book case and just stand there. I have also tried putting the books into a general container, and in a research bench and he will not pull from those either. Just some issues I've had I know you did not say anything about other storage or research benches I just thought I would bring it up. Thank you though for the ability to create the books, Ancient books, Engineering pages and the AI cores it takes time but well worth it.

at first i was in 4th tier but i though maby i need to start fresh for the mod to work and now i am on 3rd tier and still nothing...
