Yes, you can have as many pets as you want, each house spawns its own pet.
Downside is may encounter a duplication bug.

As far as I know it shouldn't affect custom race pets because they generally use their own tech station

But it can be fixed by simply adding a line to the tech station in the ship
Its been years since I opened the mod

But if you look at the difference between the base game tech station and my mod you should be able to see the line that is missing. Just re-add it and your starting pet should come back

Theres no other pet mod, so not sure. I'll try it again later, if I figure out which mod might be affecting it I'll let you know. Cus none of the other mods do anything with pets.

No this mod only overides 1 thing and that's the Ship Terminal it doesn't touch anything else

It was after I added crew customization+ and Better Crew (diet version), Im thinking there might be something in those maybe stopping despawn possibly.

The only thing I can think of is if you use a custom ship with a custom alien terminal

Those things don't work properly.
That is why my mod removes the default ship pets and moves it into the house

I trapped them between two of them and they kept running through it without being trapped =/ I ended up removing the mod cus I think maybe one of the other mods I had is messing it up.

Its a bug in the base game unfortunately only way to do it is is make sure pet trap is placed in front of them.

I have multiple cats wandering around my ship now and they wont go into the traps...is there a way to get rid of them? I deleted the spawner

that is caused by custom ships that don't use vanillia code.
The mod removes the vanillia code to keep pet continously spawned and moves it to the pet house.

There is no way to remove the code from modded tech stations

Ran into an issue where the starting pet spawns in and using the pet removal will cause them to spawn in and out of existence

If you want to uninstall it you will want to remove the pet house before uninstalling it
Besides the pet house it doesn't add any new assets

No Pets mod would be a better option - because it adds no new assets it should be client side mod only. They wouldn't need to download the mod only you

The issue I see is that I play with other people, and they may not want to lose their pet while I do want to remove the pet, so I was hoping that the pet trap from this would work on the starter pet so my buddies can keep their pet if they wanted and I could remove mine.

Yes and No. The problem is save files are written in a way it preserves past data.
The exception being Lua scripts.

If you want to remove your pet - I suggest my No Pets mod instead - which updates the Lua to remove it

Sorry if this question has been asked a bunch, but if you already have an existing character can you still remove their pet with this mod? or would you have to start a new character to get the starting pet removed?

As long as tech station is vanilla it won't happen.
It only happens if the tech station is replaced.

If you want - you could just write a simple patch to your game. Its just a matter of adding a few lines to the tech station. If you open up my mod you should see what lines to add, then add those lines to the modded tech station

If you are using any custom race mod - it will stop the script from functioning to remove the original pet. Unless that custom race mod uses a vanillia tech station

Those are custom tech stations, so nothing I can do about it.
I can only modify vanillia stations

Is anyone having a problem where purchasable pets isn't removing the pet from the tech stations? I tried removing all my other mods to see if it was a conflict, but it's still happening.

It is a thing though - retextures, for example, that dont add actual items or slots are client-sided and not required to be installed on the server

That isn't a thing in Starbound - anything that adds new assets has to be owned by both players

does anyone else have a glitch where they put the house down, spawn the pet, remove the house, but the pet is still there? and then you can put the house back down and get another pet

They will disappear - the houses is what actually "keeps them spawned"
Also your starting pet will reappear

There are 2 types of Entnties in the game
Persistent and Generated.
Persistent entities in most cases use an object to keep them active

Dirty edits in general is because of the LUAs files, which do not work with the patching method, but even that has a solution, you can add new LUAs files to avoid editing the original ones, the problem with editing original files, is that it causes many other mods to be incompatible because they also edit those same files for example.

So there are 2 ways to make a mod - One is a patch file which changes a specific line only. Then there is a Dirty Edit which overwrites the file it self. Sometimes extremely rarely Dirty Edits are mandatory but in most cases you always want to do a patch.

I suggest reading my Tutorial - it is really simple to make the necessary changes

I found out that this is incompatible with the Mandalorian mod. Can you release a patch for this?

It prevents the child from spawning from its little crib.
