Need more remote lasers!

I swear the lazer keeps moving with my mouse even when I move away from it, very cool concept though! The floor is a bit annoying glad the acid does not kill the player at first.

I liked it, would say it was aa nice idea. :steamhappy:

It's a weird idea, which is not necessarily bad. But this test is buggy. The floor's physics do not accurately reflect the player's position and duration at a particular position.
Also, I wouldn't consider the goo not killing the player to be a "little" margin of error; it's a huge margin. The whole point of the goo is to kill the player. If it doesn't, it nerfs the test.

Nice unique concept!
Ravenscaur 11 Dec, 2014 @ 10:48am
Seriously awesome. The floor thing just blew me away. I look forward to more from you.

Very cool.Thanks.

very clever and lots of fun :) very glad the slime isn't instant death though, it's good to have a little margin of error with such a mechanic

Your chambers are...interesting.
kimist108 3 Aug, 2013 @ 9:40am
Different and fun!
SloppyPlatypus 6 Oct, 2012 @ 12:17pm
I love each and every one of your chambers.

Dying immediately upon touching slime was annoying during development. It can still kill you if you swim in it, though.

Amazing concepts! I was amazed to find out that I survived the deadly slime burns where the wobbling platform is!

Very good, very fun, great job. I love it.

nice map

Just grab a 550watt PSU. Peruse Newegg and you'll probably find a decent one for $60. I would recommend a complete PC upgrade at this point, but not my call.

By the way, you really need to check out my maps. AACTP Simpilified is a simplified version of the one next to it, so feel free to try both.

My graphics card is an almost-burned-out ATI Radeon HD 4670
The only reason I haven't replaced it with the GTX 285 in my closet is because I still can't find a suffecient power supply.

From what you've posted, your machine is more outdated than mine. In which case, your poor performance is expected. There isn't much I can do about that considering the first room (which is pretty much empty) gives you lag.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 27 May, 2012 @ 11:48am
My machine is far from a state of the art gaming rig. It was probably midrange (if that) 4 years ago.

I could understand the derelict relaxation vault room and turret room incurring a performance hit, but the rest doesn't make sense unless your PC doesn't meet P2's min requirements or you are like me and run Photoshop and 3ds Max in the background. There's also the possibility you are running integrated or low tier dedicated graphics...hmm. What are you using?

I have a good range of hardware to test on, but not enough samples. There's my desktop which lurches through anything new I throw at it that isn't Source and my laptop which can barely play Half-Life 2 Deathmatch in window mode at 800x600.

No worries. I think what I just said came off rude as well. :(
Solution: Emotes! :D
Amaroq Leareth 27 May, 2012 @ 11:38am
The whole level has a tiny bit of lag, but where it gets really bad is the tiliting platform and the laser control room.

My computer oly has 4 gigabytes of ram, an old Pentium processor (still unable to upgrade), and a very old graphics card. It is DX10, so it isn't too old, but it is still quite outdated.

Can you give an example of where it is poorly optimized? The entire map is never rendered at the same time, you see at most 3 sections at a time. I was able to run through the map in wireframe mode at 1680x1050 with all settings but AA and AF maxed out (AA and AF at 4x) and not dip below 40fps. The fps drop was due to looking at foliage with wireframe mode on. With it off, I got a solid 60fps according to Afterburner.

Phenom II 920 stock
8GB RAM
512MB 9800gt EcoIntelligence (no power cable needed)

3TB Barracuda (game drive)
500w Antec Basiq (6yrs old)

Poorly optimized, very laggy.
Also, there often isn't enough time to jump off before the platform starts to fall in that direction. You should reduce the sesntivity of the platform somehow.

the remote control laser is an amazing idea.
Izzz 19 May, 2012 @ 5:18am
nice concept
Tomki 19 May, 2012 @ 4:05am
Short map but good 5/5.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 18 May, 2012 @ 7:57pm
The goo wasn't supposed to kill you, hence how shallow it was. Having it instakill for falling off was too harsh.
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 18 May, 2012 @ 11:54am
I tried to alleviate jumping issues by adding playerclips around the entrances. Turns out it still wasn't enough. Sorry.

Just wait for it to settle before running up, I guess (That's what I did).
zaglis 18 May, 2012 @ 11:51am
This map needed duck-jumping. Thanks to consoles, Valve crowbared it out.
GIANTBLUE 18 May, 2012 @ 10:12am
As other people have said, I very much enjoyed the controlled laser and the map in general, but I found the floor somewhat annoying. A good map nonetheless.
16Bitman 18 May, 2012 @ 6:47am
I really love what some people can make with hammer :D
Tabletopcheese 14 May, 2012 @ 2:32pm
Ah yes! Now I remember. Just a curiousity, Once again very unique map :]
Rand0mNumbers  [author] 14 May, 2012 @ 1:36pm
The dummy was in Portal 2 on a turret assembly line. You hide behind it.
Tabletopcheese 14 May, 2012 @ 12:00pm
The floor was very interesting.. Though a bit hard to manage, its a great concept. IT would be more interesting if weights were involved, rather than the person. Laser control very cool. Was the aperature crash dummy a custom made thing? HAvent seen it before.
Portalized 13 May, 2012 @ 8:55pm
Agreed - I did not like the floor at all - I did enjoy kill the turrets by remote control. That was interesting and new to me - never saw that idea before. And I think you could improve the destroyed look a little - thanks for making!
Le Petit Mort 13 May, 2012 @ 8:02pm
Interesting, but the floor is a bit too frustrating overall.
DannyVFilms 12 May, 2012 @ 5:59pm
THis map is well constructed, and has some fun elements to it. But it can get a little confusing if your not sure what to look for. Overall though, very good.
P.S. Can you look at my maps? I know that sounds corney, but I need someone to try them to see if they're any good.
