Hi,

Maybe i'm really dumb, but I can't figure out how to pass the 1st level... is there a solution?

Piratebear, smth is wrong with your PC or your game or your Internet I guess=) The procedure of running custom coop maps is not too hard but I agree with you that a good implementation would be great. =)

Alternative #3 is comming soon.

Chill, r1x, got it handled. I'm not all too dumb. First map got my Steam crashing (confirmed 3 times as host, one as client), not that of my friend though. Second map worked fine after a bit of trouble with a blackscreen, loaded a bit long I guess. But didn't crash. Puzzles could be more complex. The laser one was cool. Getting the companion cube was cool, very coop-ish. Although no clue what to do with it once we have it.

Point me to the place where Steam puts its error logs if you want details about the crash. It simply crashed several seconds into the map, each time. Not only Portal, Steam did. Only mine. No idea why.

If you can get yourself to making more levels, they'd be appreciated. I love puzzling around. Make that stuff harder without hiding anything (the window in the third area was hard to spot). Cheers.

Piratebear, workshop can't rename the map file.
If you already downloaded file "ALTERNATIVE-1-2.rar" you need to open the archive and put the .bsp files in:
"your steam directory\steamapps\common\portal 2\portal2\maps\"

then...
7. Open the Portal 2;
8. Start new cooperative game with your friend;
9. Then you need to open in-game console;
10. And write this: changelevel mp_coop_alternative_1

Hi r1x, the problem seems to be that Valve didn't make it any easier to access coop maps. I wonder why. I felt that the coop element was one of the most enticing features of Portal 2 but it doesn't seem to be of major importance to the majority of the community. There should be a direct play feature. Choose map, choose partner, start. Working around the restrictions using the console is possible but makes the game significantly less attractive.

Let me get this straight:
- Establish the coop session first by going into the coop lobby.
- Choose the map you desire via developer's console using the changelevel command.
- In order for this map to be found by the console it needs to be in the maps folder having a proper name and the Workshop automatically assigns numerical names to maps.

I essentially have to download the *.bsp file (the map) either using your dropbox link (thanks, mate) or the in-game browser (then rename it). Aye?

I'll try it. Thanks. (Stupid character limit!)

Piratebear, I apologize for such complexity, i can't make it easer ;[
Also, you can download my alternative maps from dropbox:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/32206012/WFiles/Maps/ALTERNATIVE-1-2.rar

and install it in "maps" folder, then write in console: changelevel mp_coop_alternative_1

It seems to be somewhat hard to come across cooperative maps on here, so I will definitely give this a try. Thanks for describing the procedure in detail. But why is it that complicated? Can't we just use the ingame map... thingy and start a coop game and be all set?

My guess would be that there is no suitable implementation of coop play in custom maps, am I right? That would be somewhat awful since we've only bought the game to play it cooperatively.

It`s a very good decorated map with interesting ideas waiting to be solved. Must try!!!

Very cool map!
We needed about 1 min to launch co-op mission, so discription is good enough!
