it looks fine to me, something else you might be able to do is disabling the hidden potential setting in your in game settings under campaign

Wasn't working for me recently which was frustrating, using gloomyblues and boyrdee's fixes worked for me, probs will for yall.

under /steamapps/workshop/content/268500/688405905/CommandersChoice.XComMod

Open it in notepad and add RequiresXPACK=true to the bottom and save

and under \steamapps\workshop\content\268500\688405905\Config\XComCommandersChoice.ini

use ctrl+f to easily navigate it, for all the following i did the same change to the line above it that contained ";Default:"

bPreventAccidentalLevelUp=True to Default: bPreventAccidentalLevelUp=False

i also changed the following but probably not needed to fix the mod
bDisableArmoryPromoteRookieButton=False to bDisableArmoryPromoteRookieButton=True

bDisableAfterActionPromoteRookieButton=False to bDisableAfterActionPromoteRookieButton=True

bHideAfterActionPromoteRookieButton=False to bHideAfterActionPromoteRookieButton=True

Seems broken to me for LWOTC
JoeFromHome 23 Aug @ 11:09am
Question: How do I control what classes the mod detects and lists for me to select? Is that a config file for Commanders Choice or a Config File edit on the classes side?
The Realm 20 Aug @ 4:12am
I can't get this mod to work. Its randomized like normal for me.
Necromancer 18 Aug @ 10:30pm
Not sure what's going on, but I can't seem to get this mod to work on WOTC.
GrumpySorc 7 Aug @ 1:25pm
this works in the base game for me but not war of the chosen. Is anyone else having a problem with this? The button does not appear in the character menu.
tigersag 7 Aug @ 5:49am
Thank you so much for making this mod. It works really well and I can put my Hollywood characters in the proper roles. I mean nobody wants to see John Rambo as a medic or a computer nerd, right?
gravyjones 31 Jul @ 11:34am
i just started using this over the weekend. works as advertised.
zcomegys 20 Jul @ 2:05pm
When was the last time the creator made a comment?
zcomegys 20 Jul @ 12:28pm
Even after the suggestions it does not work. I tried the mod Choose my Class and that works. Does anyone know how to convert all the code for that mod into this mod.
John Wick himself 20 Jul @ 4:10am
not showing up in LWOTC as of now, used to work for long war and vanilla
Leechard 2 Jul @ 5:15pm
@gloomyblues
It was very useful for me,i get it, thanks for sharing
malthaussen 28 Jun @ 8:44am
At first it seemed this was not working, even though I had made both of the edits suggested by gloomyblues. Then suddenly, after I'd already promoted a couple of rookies, the Commander's Choice button appeared right where it should have.
So, it works for a given value of "work." I just hope it keeps working. :)
Zesty Noodle 27 Jun @ 8:55am
I used gloomyblues fix and it works now for me. Thanks!
Simon French 23 Jun @ 3:25am
Getting frustrated/desperate =( I will concede I'm completely new to the modding scene but after commander's choice not appearing after being enabled, I followed gloomyblues instructions as well > checked the right false/true values against the right field as per the table below, and the commander's choice tab still isn't appearing in the armoury or on the promotion screen so when I press promote soldiers will still just randomly assign a class... Can anyone guide me where I'm going wrong here please! Thnx
gloomyblues 10 Jun @ 11:34pm
In my case, as boyrdee mentioned,

I changed the following:

SteamLibrary/steamapps/workshop/content/268500/688405905/CommandersChoice.XComMod

[mod]
publishedFileId=688405905
Title=Commanders Choice
Description=Description of My XCOM 2 Mod.
tags=
contentImage=
RequiresXPACK=true

And then modified:

c:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\688405905\Config\XComCommandersChoice.ini

[CommandersChoice.UIScreenListener_CommandersChoice]
;Disable Next/Prev Soldier buttons if either is rookie ready to level up?
;Default: bPreventAccidentalLevelUp=True -> False
bPreventAccidentalLevelUp=True -> False

After changing the value from True to False, the Commander's Choice menu appeared.

Hope it would help.
williamkrzyzkowski 6 Jun @ 7:54pm
idk why but its the 7th of june 2025 and mines not working
it says that it will only work on normal xcom 2 on the new mod launcher
but the mod says it works for wotc aswell so idk

WORK FOR ME MISSING CONFIRMATION BUTTON

Confirm unlike Telcontyr before, the following addition of RequiresXPACK=true, enables CC from the New Mod Launcher for me.

IronsideTheBrazen 30 May @ 3:10pm
The only fix that worked for me was installing the "Alternative Mod Launcher" from github and Commanders choice works now !
lionhart81x 29 May @ 3:09pm
@LeoArcticaa how did you fix it?
LeoArcticaa 28 May @ 9:49am
Nevermind I think I found or fixed it.

I just resubbed and now the commander's choice option is at the top of soldier tab when you go to promote them, for me it was above the Customise button.
LeoArcticaa 27 May @ 11:49pm
Theres no option for commanders choice anymore, just promote solider :<
LeoArcticaa 27 May @ 11:49pm
Not working anymore for me either
IronsideTheBrazen 27 May @ 7:57pm
Mod not working for me either
lionhart81x 27 May @ 4:56pm
mod isn't working there is no option for, commanders choice. i even stated a new game and nothing
Online Addict 25 May @ 1:35am
@Apostivox How? It doesn't even load in the game for me and I even tried the ini edit that was suggested. Please help! I love this mod and want it to work!
Apostivox 23 May @ 4:41pm
I cannot believe this wasn't in the base games. Great work! Working brilliantly for me!
fadster 13 May @ 1:50pm
The mod loaded fine for me with the new mod launcher but the menu items are offset. For example "customize" opens the loadout screen and the regular "promote soldier" goes to "dismiss soldier" instead. Is there a fix for this?
Junichi 25 Apr @ 2:57pm
Well, it works but the list is only showing custom classes.
TheFirstFoxx 18 Apr @ 5:02pm
How do you get this to work? I am am trying a long war in WOTC and I need the choice to choose in this.
Ravin 16 Apr @ 9:15pm
Still not working even with the posted fix.
The Best We Have 15 Apr @ 6:41pm
Anyone else getting a new glitch where the very first Rookie you promote lacks the "Confirm" button when selecting the "Starting Abilities"? I swear I encountered this before in some capacity, but I most definitely got around it in the past. Anyone know a solution?
Luke_Saber 11 Apr @ 6:40am
if yall having issues with it not working follow Teamapes instructions (April-11-2025)
Ersatz 31 Mar @ 10:48pm
despite following the steps outlined by everyone else i cannot get this thing to work, running with LWOTC but even without it it's non-functional
Uncle Jose 30 Mar @ 4:52pm
Does this work with amalgamation Classes?
Teamape 24 Mar @ 3:39am

Telcontyr 22 Mar @ 3:41pm
Can confirm that it works with Original Mod Launcher, not sure either if RequiresXPACK=true is required but I added it to the file anyway.

Adding RequiresXPACK=true did NOT make the mod work with the New Mod Launcher.

For me the github Alternative Mod Launcher just crashes when I try to use it.

Launch the game with the original mod launcher (you can do this by right clicking on the game in your library and clicking properties) and it works at least for me.
I'm not sure if you have to add RequiresXPACK=true if the mod files like other people said but I did so it's probably best advised.
Telcontyr 21 Mar @ 5:46pm
That alternative mod launcher crashes the second I press launch WOTC at the top...
Athlon 21 Mar @ 5:42am
For everyone still having issues with this mod, add the RequiresXPACK=true line in the CommandersChoice.XComMod file and use the Alternative Mod Launcher here:
{LINK REMOVED}

That worked for me
Kip 11 Mar @ 4:37am
Все работает. в файлах ничего не прописывал, RequiresXPACK уже была изначально прописана....возможно из за того, что игру скачал на днях.
запускал Long War of the Chosen, через Alternative Mod Launcher....по другому не пробовал.
=========================================================================
Everything works. I didn’t write anything in the files, RequiresXPACK was already written there initially... possibly because I downloaded the game recently.
I launched Long War of the Chosen through the Alternative Mod Launcher... I haven’t tried it any other way."
The UK Is Mine 8 Mar @ 10:09pm
Tried adding RequiresXPACK=true as recommended by previous comments but this seems to not work. If possible, could mod poster do a fix? It would be much appreciated
DarKWolFDrAGoN9 6 Mar @ 6:31pm
mod does not work with wotc
CommanderFinnk 2 Mar @ 5:49pm
@Chris Redfield Where in the files would I do this?
Boge 27 Feb @ 10:22am
@Chris Redfield
I was copying Ninjaboy. He left the S out of his. But with the S, it works. Thanks for the quick reply.
Eren Jaeger 26 Feb @ 8:24pm
@Boge you forgot to add the s on RequiresXPACK=true, that's why it's not working for you.
Boge 26 Feb @ 2:14pm
This has recently stopped working for me. It was working a few weeks back, but not today. I use the AML as well. It's making me wonder how many other mods I have that are not working and I won't realize it until 20 hours later at the end of my playthrough.
Adding RequireXPACK=true to CommandersChoice.XComMod does NOT fix it.
Freaking updates. Why can't a released game just stay released and not be modified?
Dr Sys 23 Feb @ 11:48am
@Ninjaboy - what file does this need to be added to?
