Hah, you've got a point there!

"shame it never really took off..." is the tagline for this whole game :( For whatever flaws it has, it's the best 4X since SOTS imo. Maybe there will be a renaissance some time :)

Mmm, it's a shame it never really took off... but then, we haven't had a lot of shipsets aside from dolynick's, and he prefers the alternative solution of padding the hull out with low-cost armors (to the point of specifically adding several of them to DOF).

OH! In the common library. LOL, sorry, for some reason my brain was not clicking. Thanks for the explanation :)

It's an applied subsystem that tweaks the default hex limit (as in, before special hulls or tech upgrades) so that you can just about fill out the ship's silhouette in the ship designer with a full complement of internal hexes and about one layer of armor encompassing the whole ship.

What's the hex-limiter thingamajiggy?

Version 2.0 has been released, adding a number of missing ships including both Titans, and allowing Satellites to be used on the shipset's station hulls.

I'd include a quote from the Rebellion intro, like with the other updates today, but the one I'm trying to pick up is proving elusive. (Can't hear half of the words, or even fill in from context.)

I'll start a thread here and add items as I notice them.
Dalo Lorn  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 8:53am
It just might be. MyFist had lots of stuff, but it wasn't too thorough. (Vasari are missing Titans, everybody's missing Corvettes and Rebellion capships, and there's probably a few stations here and there that could be useful, like the Phase Stabilizer.)
dolynick 11 May, 2016 @ 8:41am
Well, that's I suggested you give me a list of what you're missing. So long as it's isn't dozens of models, I can probably help you out with this.
Dalo Lorn  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 8:39am
Unfortunately, I can't pick it up any more than I can Max. :/
dolynick 11 May, 2016 @ 8:27am
I just checked and apparently it does. Not sure how well it does it though. It's probably fine. I'm almost positive that all the .mesh conversions you have from MyFist came from the Max script. I was modding Sins back then and it's what the community usually referenced for use. It's also what I used to convert all the SGI models over for the Stargate shipsets. 3D Object Converter is a great, useful and relatively inexpensive tool though. If you are looking at picking it up, I think it's worthwhile for anyone who plans to do shipset conversions.
Dalo Lorn  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 8:15am
I've been told that it works fine.
dolynick 11 May, 2016 @ 8:11am
I have that too, but that does nothing for .mesh files. I could be wrong, but the .mesh SoaSE used was sort of a unique format they tweaked for their game. It's very handy for a number of other more common formats though. The DOF Star Wars shipset wouldn't have any of the nicer models it currently includes were it not for Converter.
Dalo Lorn  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 8:02am
Ahh, I thought you had the 3D object converter or whatever it was called. My mistake. :o
dolynick 11 May, 2016 @ 7:38am
First you have to convert the .mesh to txt format (they're in binary by default). Then you need a way to import the .mesh... There are only two .mesh importers that I know of, and both of them are for Max. The good news is that the import script I have does seem to work fairly well. From there I can export a .obj for you to use in Blender for the final tweaking (which is usually just a Z rotation and scaling down to the 1 unit space).
Dalo Lorn  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 7:30am
Well, I can do most of the converting in Blender - it's just the .mesh format that's giving me a hard time.
dolynick 11 May, 2016 @ 6:51am
@Dalo: If you let me know what you're missing I can probably convert the .mesh for you. It's a slight pain but I believe all the tools necessary to do so are still on my system. I should have all the official ship models from the game.
vaaish 11 May, 2016 @ 6:48am
sweet :)
Dalo Lorn  [author] 11 May, 2016 @ 12:34am
@vaaish: Yep. TEC and Advent got the StarCraft treatment - bunch of new ships and massively improved texturing. :P
The Emissary 10 May, 2016 @ 8:58pm
Ahhh, it is good to see this. I love playing the Vasari Empire! Thanks great deal!
vaaish 10 May, 2016 @ 2:04pm
It is? Are they just updated versions of the older mods?
Kiergath 10 May, 2016 @ 12:47pm
Awesome! Glad to see you got this done - kind've makes my week, gaming wise :)
Dalo Lorn  [author] 10 May, 2016 @ 11:40am
@dolynick: I'm not actually sure if I asked you. I do know I asked Swizzler, but he wasn't too eager to do the conversion.

@vaaish: If you mean the TEC and Advent stuff, it's already up.
vaaish 10 May, 2016 @ 7:35am
cool. :) thanks for putting this up. I'm quite looking forward to the rest of the ones you've been teasing too!
dolynick 10 May, 2016 @ 7:17am
Which ones? Was I supposed to convert some for you? I've been so pre-occupied lately with my own projects and other stuff going on I may have forgotten...
Dalo Lorn  [author] 10 May, 2016 @ 7:01am
It's missing a lot of models, though. :(
dolynick 10 May, 2016 @ 6:44am
It's been a long time coming. Congratulations on the release Dalo.
