You can skip the entire map by rolling over the edge at the start directly to the end

good mechanic though

Locking the camera to the ball is next to impossible when it comes to the hammer editor, so that's why I settled with this less than optimal method.

According to the game_ui, it does freeze the player. This might break because of thirdperson etc.

But you didn't actually freeze the imputs. You just trapped the player in a box far off the screen and made the camera not follow the player... When I used thidperson, the camera went back to the player, I could still jump and move, but in a small box.

I freeze the normal player controls and add outputs to different thrusters around the ball. In this way, you conrol the ball by literally pushing it around with invisible magnets.

Disorienting camera movement~ It would have taken me 1 or 2 tries, but because this camera confused me so much, it was 10 tries.

@mikelend it is not a copy, this is made in the source engine from scratch in the hammer editor. The concept of a roling bal may have been used before, but it's certainly no copy.

You might want to work on the button mappings. I use an XInput device (such as an Xbox 360 controller). Instead of an absolute key bind, look for what is binded to what allows the player to straife (such as WASD by default). The vertical ball movement worked, but not the horizontal, and the thumbstick is mapped similarly to WASD. I don't know how you would fix this in Hammer, but I Seji-Evan has a few maps that have custom input interfaces and work just fine on a controller.

The only 'proof of concept' here is that I can make a ball roll, imagine the possibilities for future test chambers with a ball that you have to roll around by pushing a button

@rectorrocks thanks! It is indeed a bit hard to control, perhaps I'll slow the controls a bit so you don't shoot the ball as soon as you click a button. @quatrus thanks, touching the button is enough for the level to end :) @dcook thanks! @steveo it's frustrating either way

It works....keypad is a bit touchy and F6 is necessary.. never got it up in the catcher just near it.

@tuleby large map will indeed be frustrating mainly because I can't parent the viewcontrol to the ball without it rotating all over the place
