It's not a mod, it's literally one of the two games composing Sonic 3&K.

An update they made to the game broke mod loading, check a post I made to the forum. I made a post to backdate the game.

A lot of people also don't realize that it was intentionally designed as a trilogy.
Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, then Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

If you activate the level select code (I believe its up up down down up up up up on the moment the SEGA splash fades (Hint: Button mash up after the up up down down part, it doesn't detect a 5th), then you can scroll to level select on the menus.

Enter level select and you can pick a character with (A) (0 - Sonic and Tails 1 - Sonic 2 - Tails 3 - Knuckles) and a stage with the directional keys, press (START) to begin the stage. Through this you can start on Mushroom Hill.

alternate way is to spawn a ton of monitors (via debug) in Mushroom Hill Act 1 and spin dash into them, it crashes S3&K and turns it to S&K

Actually there was a cheat you could do to play as Tails in S&K.

PacGuy that is false, it actually uses a lot of data (and code!) from the S3 ROM. Also Tails' art is only in S3 cart IIRC. So in fact you must have S3 in order to play S3K

S3K is basically just S&K with S3 features slapped on top, so there's really no harm done. Besides, S3K contains the exact same rom; it just reacts differently when it sees S3s' rom locked into it.

no you need Sonic 3 & Kuckles to play it, on the sega mega drive or genesis you needed both Sonic 3 and Sonic Kuckles cart to play it so that sad you could play them as there own game.

This can also be done in S3K, lock-on and all, with a debug mode glitch. Occasionally, when the game crashes really badly, it'll load S&K without S3 locked in. I usually do the glitch and keep a save state of it for this purpose.
