Only those two files, no other files are relevant?
You can simply copy the content of the latest proto and techtree files and copy it into the older versions. This way you have the latest changes reflected in your campaign.
e.g. go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age of Mythology\data (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age of Mythology\mods\*nameofthemod*\data if you want to copy the proto of a mod) and copy the proto2.8.xml. Then you paste it into the folder of your mod in the data subfolder and rename it to proto1.0 and so on. Repeat the process with the techtree2.8.xml and you have the latest changes in all of your campaigns.
Can you please tell me how can i mod the game to play the original AOM and Titans campaigns but using the latest balance changes from the AOM EE 2.8 (including new units like the Physician)?
I know it's late, but I updated the mod today.
Relic Harters Folly (more LOS for scouts)
Relic Trios Bow (more range for archers)
Relic Pelt of Argus (more LOS for all units)
Relic Head of Orpheus (more LOS for all buildings)
I can give them the same effect that 'Omniscience' has and I think that this would be a great solution for the last two.
Currently 'Harters Folly' grants scouts +200 LOS and thats not the whole map + it should only grant you the huge LOS buff when you have a scout. Same goes for 'Trios Bow' with archers.
So I don't know what to do with these two.
The other one is a bit problematic because the lag occurs when there are too many units in your sight. I could change the sight affecting relics to their old values if that is in your interest.
