I like the idea, but I would love to see the particles more. This is because currently it looks very faint and can blend in easily into the enviorment. Maybe add some lighting effect to it. Great job though! :D

Noice, but if the explosions faded out and in when exploding, it would look alot more natural than them just popping up.

Could you post a gif or a video of the effect in action? That way we can see what the effect would look like in game.
