It is possible to escape. Took me just over 5 days. I caused a riot and then booked out the front door and up the road. You might consider guard towers along the road if it is difficulty escaping that you are wanting. What took me so long was they never gave me a cell, and in the process of building up my stats ended up in a dark orange suit, so I had no way of underground escape.
