I did actually have to buy a completely up to date video card so I kept the old one and will use the new one in a DDR4 system if I ever decide to build one and use the DDR3 system for a
UNIX (not Linux) server. I was train in UNIX at Bell Labs in Denver.

That's why I spent about $500 on upgrading my PC to it's maximum specs to be able to play Cites: Skylines. I could have gone for a DDR4 based system but building a totally new system would have cost over $1000 to match the capabilities of my old DDR3 system. There are some components (can't remember which ones right now) that cost more in a DDR4 system then the upgrade costs for my DDR3 system.

That sounds grim :(... I've found that when one has too much time on their hands, it can be ironically difficult to find some satisfaction in life. I hope you succeed in that.

<Snicker> I sometimes forget this is a game.
I'm retired with WAY TOO much time on my hands and I'm already one(1) past my family's expected life span. I've already got an adoption for my cat ready if need be.

@Evil, Pretty well actually.
Against lightning they have a special grounding system that might not work. So that's covered.
If you're worried about tornadoes, under threat they have been fitted with a revolutionary functionality: they may be demolished! Once the coast is clear new ones may purchased. This process can be repeated as often as you see fit. Most mayors should have no problem affording the extra buck.
As for aircraft, you can tell your pilots not to fly near them. Alternatively you may place them where pilots do not fly.... I know it's hard to train reliable pilots, but that's a different issue that sometimes even affects subways...

How do these handle lightning, tornadoes and aircraft?

Ah! so cool! They're straight out of San Fransokyo.

Big Hero 6?
Cucag 11 Aug, 2018 @ 6:28pm
Looks like the one in Big Hero 6 and this is perfect for urban enviorments but i don't really use it in that.
DakotaEllington 11 Mar, 2018 @ 3:57pm
This reminds me of those futureisc movies! I subbed this one!
CaroShio0083 21 Jan, 2018 @ 11:26am
wow that pretty cool idea!

@Ghojo: I really wanted that too, I was hoping to use snippets from the normal wind turbine to make a little mod, but I have absolutely no clue how to make it work. Anyway, I don't believe anyone has figured out how to animate anything other than night lighting into the game yet, sorry!
Droidhacker 8 Apr, 2016 @ 5:05pm
yeah I dont't think it'd matter, as long as it was functional, I wonder if it was possible to make it a bus and station and just have it go around the platform on the ground. The ground station would have all the functionality and the "bus" (the thing in the air) would just be decorative, that way it could move. Haven't others make air vehicles out of cars that follow roads? I might be mistaken, I haven't been on the workshop in a while.
Whipplesnoodle  [author] 8 Apr, 2016 @ 3:05pm
@Droidhacker: That's a really cool idea! I wonder if it would look alright being completely stationary though? I already had my doubts about this thing not bobbing around a bit in the wind...
Droidhacker 8 Apr, 2016 @ 1:45pm
Subscribed the second I saw this, cool idea man! Since you like anno this reminds me that it might be cool to make the Ozone Generator and if its possible it could clean pollution.
SpaceKraken 22 Feb, 2016 @ 11:38pm
Big Hero 6? :D:
Jax 13 Feb, 2016 @ 12:33am
Nice! They have one up in my state for testing :)
Whipplesnoodle  [author] 12 Jan, 2016 @ 11:54am
@Jax: That's indeed the one I used for reference :>.
Jax 12 Jan, 2016 @ 4:50am
Looks great! It reminds me of the Altaeros BAT.
sag032 4 Jan, 2016 @ 8:16am
So how much power does one give ?
Whipplesnoodle  [author] 17 Nov, 2015 @ 8:20am
@ Brick: I've known about them for a long time, and I used a real life one for reference, but BH6 was the first time I saw them in a urban setting. I'm quite sure I would not have made these if I hadn't seen the film a few days earlier!
Brickitect 16 Nov, 2015 @ 8:42pm
Reminds me of the ones in Big Hero 6, was that the inspiration?
Darth Modus - God of Richards 31 Oct, 2015 @ 5:42pm
Genius! Why didn't anybody else think of this.
Whipplesnoodle  [author] 28 Oct, 2015 @ 9:19am
@romannets: Thank you! Normal windspeed indeed is variable, I would be very surprised if this did not act the same as a normal wind turbine. :)
romannets 28 Oct, 2015 @ 9:04am
looks cool in game.. But wind speed seems to drop over time, or maybe its normal that windspeed is variable.

Pezz 22 Oct, 2015 @ 11:06am
Ah, that's fair enough :D I for one would be totally okay with having the clutter! Worst case scenario, I'll take a crack at it myself at some point, but failing that, if it's texture work alone, I'd be more than happy to contribute a few designs o vo
Whipplesnoodle  [author] 22 Oct, 2015 @ 10:42am
@Pezz, David, MadCat: Thank you! I'm really glad you like it!

@Pezz: I actually planned on doing exactly that when I started on this thing. I quickly discovered that having one or two decorated ones actually looks a lot worse than having one plain one like the one I uploaded. Even though just texturing it differently is not that much work, it does take a lot of my time if I have to make a dozen or more :P. If there is enough demand, and people are alright with having a dozen of these things cluttering their electricity building category, then sure, I'll make some others!

But thats for decorating the texture. I might make different models as well at some point, but right now that's not very high on my prio list... sorry!
Pezz 22 Oct, 2015 @ 10:22am
This is a seriously neat idea o vo What are the odds of getting some more decorative versions a la Big Hero 6 sometime in the future? > u>
LisaMiza 21 Oct, 2015 @ 8:57am
Just like in big hero 6 :D
MadCat3D 17 Oct, 2015 @ 11:12pm
Nice work.
