First of all thank you for your answer!
In \Steam\SteamApps\common\This War of Mine\WorkshopData I found "Custom_story.jpg" which is the default image, I modified it and I updated my existing item but the image was not modified.
So I decided to upload it from the scratch as a new mod (loaded through the "load story" button but not updating the existing one) and it worked!
Thank you very much!! (and I hope this helps others I found no documentation about it!)

@Tanek™ - Yeah had the same problem at first... go into your documents - This war of mine and then in one of the folders there sould be a "workshop level template image" or something along thos lines... if not the look into your steam folder - steamapps - this war of mine - and search for the same.

Just a quick question, how did you manage to edit the main image for the mod? The one that is in the top right of this window, the same that is shown in the mod list.
I'm working on a custom story but it keeps the default main image ("This War of Mine Custom Story").

Not sure if you noticed this, but you're using three different forces in the mod pictures. The first one is of German units using the G36 models, the second picture is actually of US Army Rangers, and the third is of British units using the L85 models. Interesting mod though.
