It's not that I dont know, it's that I genuinely dont care. If Japan and Korea come up with a name they both agree with that gets international recognition I'll swap to that - but until then my international english maps say Sea of Japan so that's the answer. 죄송합니다.

To all the Koreans commenting "It's not Sea of Japan it's EAST SEA!!!",
As I believe the creator has put it, "Sea of Japan" lets you know that "oh it's over by Japan" whereas "East Sea" could literally be any large body of water to the East.

Although comparing the east sea problem to Italy is bit overcompensating.
there are too many countries at stake in mideterranean sea. Probably closer to the comparison of the Finnish calling their side of Baltic Sea as 'east sea' or 'east baltic sea'. Difference is that they have other Baltic countries but in this instance there are only Korea and Japan and clearly Japan is overpowering Korea on that matter. They've been doing that shit since always and US was clearly condoning it since it's kinda to their strategic benefit that Japan has more land(=more US military operation area). That's why US don't give two shit about it so Korea has to fight it alone with Japan. North Korea doesn't give 2 shits too because it's South Korean terrain.

All in all, South Korea has more people on the internet claminig that it's wrong but honestly nobody on internet cares enough about the matter. It's not like wars have been fought.

its not 'sea of japan', italians dont call mediterranean sea as "sea of italy" and claim all islands as Italian. but japan tries to name it as sea of japan and claim all island in it as theirs. thus the controversy (this is besides japanese history textbook ignoring all the wrongful things they did in wwI and wwII era). its basically germany saying holocaust never happened and renaming any land and geography in nazi name. wikipedia on this topic is wrong and still evolving bc its not internationally settled and to justify your stance based on it seriously makes yourself ignorant of history and conflict between those two countries.

I mean, all in all people outside this region could call it Sea of Japan because from outside it seems like Japan is right at the edge of Pacific and all... @MEVIUS MODE 01 - In Korea and China, it's the Sea of Japan. In Vietnam and the Philipeans it's the South China Sea. In the US and Canada I have to belive it's a large chunk of the Atlantic. :P
