there is an M1 revision called the M1A, it is chambered in 7.62 x 51 NATO and has a barrel length of 18 inches as well, it takes M14 Mags @yoda

How is that extended mag supposed to work if a normal Garand is loaded from the top? Thats some serious mechanical revision.
