is good
yay
2 WHERE THE HELL IS A LIGHT SOURCE? ;0;
its too dark and im too lost as hell and scared after the power goes out ;~;
no gun at the start, too dark, next crappy custom story
is that supposed to happen?
Pros:
- Interesting and different setting, makes good use of the time spent
- Usage of custom assets
- New mechanics by both yourself and others, overall well implemented
- Storyline for the most part is pretty solid, there is a pretty rich background for such a small-ish environment
- Different endings, nice difficulty
Cons:
- While level design is not the strong suit of the mod, it does the job while providing nothing too visually pleasing, Also outside section has worse quality than the rest.
- The valve/power puzzle is overly confusing
- Vents cannot be reached properly without a climb mechanic (that is leftover from SOMA but with the player body temporarily disabled it can work, I already used it)
- Some assets felt out of place
Giving it a 7.5 for now, I could see myself replay it if it gets updated. Definitely recommended for the unique experience it provides!
Make sure that all the assets and level design are of the same quality, try not to import third party assets (like the police cars for example). Create a story that uses purely high level frictional games mods. That will result in good first impression.
Did you play the mod "burial ground"? That custom story rivals the base game in terms quality and level design, and it didnt need voice acting or custom assets.
But yea, I enjoyed your custom story enough for me to deffo replay it again in the future and this time around read all the notes carefully.
But yea, main feedback is, improve or remake the above ground level.
Basement level was alright for me, had a bit of a learning curve but I managed. I actually liked that there was no real safe area... well, except for the lockable room and the control room being a flank path.
Notes were kinda funny. Didn't find out how to explode the boiler but I figured you can do that because of the switch notes. I just knew that once you have power, you can speedrun to get out before the power shuts off again. Will probably come back to try and get the other ending.
Only thing that really bothered me was the AI voice. Missed the times people would voice modded or custom projects themselves or their friends lol
The atmosphere and vibe of the mod is great, its dark and spooky.
Pros:
Spooky vibe, you feel alone and in a unknown dark place. Feels raw.
Monster behaviour is scary, like in survival mod, he chases you instantly.
Monster is well balanced in terms of "presence". Too much much or too little.
Feels rewarding finally finding a new key item.
Cons.
The "above ground" level is too blocky and un-natural, feels like a minecraft level.
Not enough variation in the level design or ways to properly navigate through the basement level. Takes way too much effort to learn the map,
The switches on the boiler and the notes are too confusing. I read through it quickly and never figured out what the switches do and dont do. All i remember was "if its red its dangerous and can explode".
I wrote a long review but it only allows me 1000 letters. But yea, not bad.
This was wonderfully nuanced, but also a little opaque at times.
I never even thought to make sure the light switches were turned on. That's a nice subtle "hah, you thought you were safe" thing to surprise the player with. Nicely done.
Finding the shotgun and lighter were a treat, but I barely used them. I think I only ended up firing the shotgun at The Beast once, and he shrugged it off and still got me.
I gave up on doing anything with the vents. They were too high up to easily get into while not under pressure. And pulling it off while The Beast is coming for you just wasn't happening.
I never figured out what to do with the boiler room, never used the rabbit, and never found anything of signifigance in the poisoned/irradiated part of the bunker. I'm guessing there's a gas/radiation mask in there somewhere?
I got the "bad" ending, I guess. I'm gonna play some more.
Overall, damned nice! Lots of love was put into it and it shows.
Also i wish the wrench got more use, like important resources, notes, or more ammo to be behind wrench requirement, which also the unlocked vents were kind of hard to get into due to the height of them, doubting if it was worth the trouble since they're optional paths/safe places.
All in all, found it to be a very good experience albeit a bit quirky and i do hope we get more custom campaigns from you!
Regarding difficulty, i found it JUST right (and thats a hard thing, so props to you), which might be due to it being tied to the choices you make during the prologue. Also i couldn't open the locker in the boiler control room, don't know how if it can be opened cause didn't find any notes regarding it.
On new playthrough, loaded like 5 times and no issues, also played the new ver, the new emergency lights help a lot, thank you! Managed to finish it, took me like solid 3-4h actually, though it may be cause of my playstyle.
Also cause of steam character limit i'll be segmenting feedback in multiple comments.
Thanks for letting me know the fuel respawns though, I'll finish the mod eventually, I'm really curious where it goes.
