Also, as a bugfix for something that's in the current version of the mod, sometimes Dandylions get stuck in a permanent fleeing state, and can't path out of the map.

Could you add the <autoFlee>false</autoFlee> anywhere within the <factionDefs>

Since them leaving normally works, but otherwise they run sometimes around forever.

I am somewhat surprised you don't simply make the little lions allies unaligned allies of your faction (Like how allied Mechqueens work), possibly with a timer to disappear/teleport/fly-away (to avoid situations where they get stuck).

All this faction stuff can backfire when friendly fire is a thing, to say nothing of the problems without a way to bypass or overcome the 12 faction limit.

Yeah, dont touch VEF if you can help, the authors of that constantly change their sh*t un-anounced and possibly break your saves, no guarantee they wont break anything you use tomorow, no need to tangle your work with un-reliable modders, the less people remain hostage to their BS the better.

Vanilla Expanded Framework is not the problem (and my PC is very old) i used it for years and it's just get better there use to be another mod that just help you to easily add new faction that merge and improved by VEF
lag started to show up when you have to many faction in your world that 12-15 faction limit by vanilla is for that the way vanilla handle the faction is great and bad at the same time
