Minerals Rock

Is there anything I can to mitigate the spread of river rocks? They seem to keep washing up onto my bridges and adding enough pathing slowdown that pawns end up preferring to wade through the water.

Also vine mining not working

Hi, great mod idea but I have one issue so far - I can't place wall torches on smoothed walls. Don't know yet if I will be able to put cables in those. Is this intented?
Dusty Breeches  [author] 24 Sep @ 1:06pm
@Luckspear, I will look into it for next update. Thanks for the report.
Dusty Breeches  [author] 24 Sep @ 1:05pm
Basalt should not be more common than any other rock. Perhaps you have another mod that is adding basalt? That could double its frequency. I will check to see if it is spawning more, but it is not designed to to do execept in volcanic biomes
Luckspeare 23 Sep @ 10:53pm
Got a three-mod interaction involving basalt and I'm not sure who to submit it to, so submitting to all three.

Error occurs on load. Have tried different load orders, no effect. Remove any one of them and error disappears. Mineral Framework is included as dependency for Minerals Rock.

Mashed's Ashlands + Minerals Rock + Quarry [Adopted] ->

Could not execute post-long-event action. Exception: System.ArgumentException: An item with the same key has already been added. Key: Basalt

I also don't care for the prevalence of Basalt on maps, no matter if it's realistic or not. I like having rock variety, but Basalt being a true blackrock compared to Slate's very dark grey is a bit boring. Did you have other rock types in the works? I always liked the color variety of older mods such as cupro's stones. Might be worth thinking about varying the colors past whats realistic a bit.
melcalizar 17 Sep @ 6:51pm
This seems to transform most rock into Basalt even in non-volcanic mountainous biomes. Is this intentional?
Dusty Breeches  [author] 16 Sep @ 10:26am
Yea, the fallback will have the same color, hitpoints, and drop content/frequency as the modded rock
OrAZion 16 Sep @ 8:43am
What I want to ask is can a generic fallback appearance automatically adapt to the color of the rocks added to the module?
For example, I installed a mod that adds a golden rock, and when he uses a generic fallback appearance, it is golden.
Dusty Breeches  [author] 15 Sep @ 4:26pm
@Grave, I will look into adding the hewn floors under impassable rocks. Should not be too hard to add.

@OrAZion I have a big code change in the works that will automatically support any modded rock as well as make it much easier to patch modded rocks to customize their appearance, so I expect most rock-adding mods will have explicit support and the ones that dont will have a generic fallback appearance. I dont currently plan to have a way to customize each rock type via user configs since unlike better mountains each rock type is a set of at least 5 types of objects each with their own rules, so it would be very complicated for little gain in my opinion.
OrAZion 15 Sep @ 8:37am
Will this mod feature the same optional appearance and color palette as Better Mountain to support any rock-adding mods?
Grave 13 Sep @ 5:23pm
yeah in normal vanilla behavior, there's rough stone floor underneath rockwalls. When the rock wall gets mined the floor gets replaced with rough hewn stone floor that has a different texture and reduced walkspeed. Mined ores stay rough stone floor underneath. I think it's meant to create a reason for smoothing stone floors to get the walk speed back. I stopped using minerals_SK when I noticed it was doing this, and better mountains came out. Just a tiny thing.
elĐeve 11 Sep @ 6:39pm
wow
Dusty Breeches  [author] 11 Sep @ 4:26pm
Not sure of the issue with hewn floors. It does not change floors at all. I will keep it in mind though as I test
Dusty Breeches  [author] 11 Sep @ 4:25pm
Iron and coal are MO, but will have a patch soon to work with Minerals mods. Not sure about better mountain compatibility. I will test eventually, but working on other stuff first. Thanks!
Grave 10 Sep @ 2:46pm
the current version of minerals_SK fails to place rough hewn rock floors under mined rock, did that stay out of this adaptation?
Nim 10 Sep @ 9:55am
That's all MO.
dominicawb 10 Sep @ 7:34am
Wait IS there a way to turn Iron into Steel? I almost didnt realize this was separate from Medieval Overhaul, which adapts a lot of other mods. Does this add a Coal material or is that MO?
Nim 10 Sep @ 6:16am
Since vanilla Rimworld doesn't have a production chain for smelting iron ore into steel, I'd kind of like steel to drop from compacted steel nodes instead of iron ore nodes, maybe using the same texture as the compacted machinery nodes but redder/rustier.
Juggernaut 10 Sep @ 3:10am
Whooouuu! So beautiful!
Hi, Is Minerals compatible with "Better Mountains" mod, or do the settable textures conflict?
Hood 9 Sep @ 7:50pm
On the contrary I THINK it fits vanilla Rimworld perfectly, I've played with this mod for a little while and if the base game was like this I would've enjoyed it a lot more. Keep up the good work.
Dusty Breeches  [author] 9 Sep @ 7:45pm
I know what you mean. My graphic design skills are minimal so I hacked together some highly edited and outlined open license photos of rocks. Im happy with it but its a bit different than vanilla rimworld style and im more interested in coding than updating the graphics so thats where we are until someone wants to help make graphics more consistent with rimworld. Maybe arguing with AI can do well enough to rimworldify them, im not sure, but they all have masks for two colors and snow textures so it’s unlikely AI will do a good job. I am happy to collaborate if anyone is interested in making improvements!
Hood 9 Sep @ 6:42pm
I thought this mod was going to be ugly, but it actually fits very well into Rimworld, good job
Dusty Breeches  [author] 9 Sep @ 3:54pm
I have not checked recently, but when I was first developing it years ago I did not see much performance hit. I have been meaning to check again. Will report when I do. The rocks have no ticks so shouldn’t affect tps/fps, but map creation times are longer.
Rovstam 9 Sep @ 2:50pm
Does this touch performance?
Dusty Breeches  [author] 9 Sep @ 2:31pm
I will look into the floor and vein mining issues. Thanks for the report!
dominicawb 9 Sep @ 1:11pm
So I can use Basalt bricks from walls but not for floors currently.
WA2000 8 Sep @ 7:00pm
nice work
Luckspeare 8 Sep @ 12:20am
Does the basalt part work fine with Mashed's Ashlands volcanic biomes?
zyzyhasl 7 Sep @ 2:03am
Mine vein?
Dusty Breeches  [author] 6 Sep @ 5:37pm
Thanks all! I will try to add support for other stone and metal mods when I get a chance. Right now I am adding patches Medieval Overhaul. No way to replace stones on existing maps currently
negimagi_10 6 Sep @ 1:21pm
also the mod [K]Extra Stone also displays using only the vanilla style textures
negimagi_10 6 Sep @ 1:09pm
if you run the mod Expanded Materials - Metals the veins show up as the vanilla style textures.
dominicawb 6 Sep @ 11:20am
So this doesn't really replace already genereated maps in ongoing games sadly, does anyone have a solution?
I'm blind as ♥♥♥♥ 6 Sep @ 6:44am
Me: I don't need too many aesthetics mod

Also me: aesthetics and usefulness? Peak

Question tho, helixien had a mod (can't remember which one atm) which added rock boulders, will this play nice with it?
Nim 6 Sep @ 2:46am
Wow, the compacted steel actually looks like compacted steel!
Osama bin laden 6 Sep @ 12:25am
peak
Dusty Breeches  [author] 5 Sep @ 2:16pm
Yea, this has a lot of changes to mechanics and well as visuals
PepperCat 5 Sep @ 2:09pm
So, this is like a deeper approach in comparison with Better Mountains that changes the textures only?
Dusty Breeches  [author] 5 Sep @ 10:00am
Modded rocks not based on Minerals Framework will not be affected, but they are easy to make a patch for. I plan to patch mods that add rocks if there is demand for it. Im thinking about some kind of auto patching code, but that might be tricky and would not be in the theme of having each rock type feel distinct
CruelMercy 5 Sep @ 9:16am
Thank you very much. My favorite pebbles!
Karkino 5 Sep @ 8:51am
SK MINERALS IS SO BACK AND BETTER THAN BEFOREEEE LETS GO
AcetheSuperVillain 5 Sep @ 6:11am
how will this handle modded minerals?
