Maybe the each step should be formed like a foot and the effect toned a bit more.
One argument that can be raised against the return of spells is the absolute saturation of the screen with each effect, making the game harder to visually read. Such an argument makes sense.
Try to envision a scream Fortress match with every player having at least one, visual, movement based spell. And see if adding yours makes it worst or is tolerable.
