So about your ammo problem, I have a weird idea to pitch. I don't know if this would work and it might seriously affect game balance but it could be worth considering? What if the player could charge the Tau by sacrificing suit armor? Like you can hold a certain key and your suit drains power but the Tau gains ammo at the same rate. Again, it might horrifically unbalance the game but the Tau IS a really powerful weapon, so the tradeoff kinda makes sense.
