Some ideas to improve realism:
Kingdoms could revolt to break empires and form new nations, especially if they share language/culture.
Rebels could establish republics with a presidents elected every 10 years from famous citizens.
Villagers might revolt to end long wars.
kingdoms could share a protectorate via pacts regarless of aliances and empire.
Alliances/empires could offer unique caracteristic and different goals (conquest, defense, expansion).
The main issue is that freeze bug—fixing it would make the mod incredible again.
