@Nightskies -- Thanks, friend! Yes I was using Midjourney. I've been very impressed with their reference image features. You can include a reference image in their web interface and ask it to either include that specific character or use that character as a reference. I took some of the concept art from the DW2 teams, cut it out via photo editing software and messed with various weights and prompts. I think they turned out pretty well, given it's AI and all.
@disconnected — Glad you like the mod! There is a way to kinda “hack” the game into loading static images for leaders. But I would have to edit game files, which makes the mod incompatible with others (hate how they only let one mod edit game files at a time). Still might have a go at it!
The races in Distant Worlds are a known and loved thing to fans of DWU and DW2...why not show them off more, right? :D
I think the presentation is the weakest part of DW2 and it could get to another level just with better design, art and music. Devs seem to underestimate this "subconscious" part of gaming.
Luckily the mod is very save friendly. If you yank it, your save will just put in the vanilla images again.
At a certain point I do try and mimic the DW2 art style/intent of the races (with the exception of the Wekkarus)...so at this point they are just using the DW1 race pics for minor races.
But it'll be another year or so before all the races are released, so it's probably good to just have stuff in place that can be adapted to later :D
