@Henrietta, In the movie, the programs are given an Identity disc which everything they do or learn will me imprinted on the disc and if they lose it alongside failing to obey commands, they get derezzed, apart from that the disc is used also as a weapon via throwing it like a frisbee or discus, or close combat like what Tron or Rinzler did.
