Ahh, I've been plagued with the same problem others reported, crashes on specific dates. I use a smallish list of mods. A mod I'm using is clearly conflicting but there's nothing obvious. This mod is my favourite one I got this year so want to try to get the bottom of it. If I figure out what it's conflicting with I'll update!

I'm uncertain, if it's to do with the requirement of DLC?

I've gone and done a few games as Norse characters and have both tried converting to a local culture and becoming Norwegian/Danish/Swedish when the culture split event occurs without encountering any crashes.

I'm really hoping this has nothing to do with DLC, has I'm aware not everyone is going to have every DLC, it may also be caused by conflicting mods or even loading orders.

But I'm truly uncertain, If my mod ruins your experience with these crashes then I apologise for it as I'm stumped over trying to find the cause.

I like to apologise to everyone whose been experiencing during the Norse culture spiting event, I'm trying to figure out what's causing this.

I have been debugging and searching for why the norse split event crashes my game, but figuered out it is this mod.

Crash occurs directly after a Norse character converts to Swedish, either through the fate of the norsemen event or the convert to local culture option.

Can also attest to the fate of the norsemen event crashing the game. Specifically I think some norse names converting to swedish are doing it. Can send a crash report if needed.

hey so i found out im only getting a crash when the unify norse decision pops up for me around 960, after disabling this mod and making a decision, i re-enable it and my game works fine now. So maybe certain pop ups make a crash?

I have VIET and RICE, no problems either. Playing for 6-8 hours in my current save

@IG NI - Thank you, I'll keep that in mind, I'll make sure to do some furrow test games with with mods such as Foundational Framework with some other mods to see if it helps mods work together. :steamthumbsup:

@The_Ramdom_Cheese Yep. There are over 100+ mods in my mod list. More character names come after RICE and much after VIET. In addition, I use Russian localizations of mods and many different compatches. And also Foundational Framework and CCCMH mods.
I'm not sure if all this matters. But maybe it will somehow help in solving the problem.
If necessary, I can send my mod list.

@IG NI - Really? That's good to know then, issue possibly has to come down to what mods players have. Which makes things difficult when trying to figure out what conflicts with this...

My build has both RICE and VIET installed, and surprisingly none of them conflict with More Character Names. At least I haven't noticed any obvious issues caused by these three mods in several long games.

For now I'd recommend not using both VIET & RICE alongside More Character Names, to avoid crashes from said mods conflicting with it!

@2Scribble - From what I can tell both RICE & VIET come with their own custom cultures, namelists and localisation.

Which is causing both mods to conflict with More Character Names, I'm unsure how to go around it, I'm a novice when it comes to making compatibility mods.

Making the EPE + MCN compatibility mod was difficult, but making two compatibility mods for both RICE & VIET is out of my range given how complicated it would be to try and make them work with More Character Names.

If anyone out there is up to the challenge then I would be more then happy to include your compatibility mod on this page.

Also getting crashes - does seem to be tired to Viet and/or Rice since I *can* get crashes when it's only installed with one of them but I can't really say what's causing it since when it actually crashes seems to be random

Rice seems to trigger a repeatable crash quicker - if that helps

Also seem to be getting a number of characters with blank names?

I believe the crashes are due to VIET and/or RICE. Very commonly used mods that I don't use, and I don't have crashes.

for some reason, this mod unexpectedly crashes my game after a couple years of playing? i'm pretty sure it's this one because after like two hours of narrowing it down, it was this mod causing the random crashes.

not even sure what would be causing the crashes in the first place, but it would be awesome if you looked into it :steamhappy:

Throughout the localisation, there are duplicates of names & dynasties I've added... giving me a feeling that these duplicate names could be causing crashes for users who haven't been using any font mods.

I want to hope this is the case and hope that this fixes the issues. It'll take a short while for me to get rid of the duplicate names & dynasties before I can publish this update.

May luck guide me through this nightmare, alongside all your support combined! :kcdgkw:

@JSJosh - From what I figured out, the romanisation of the voiceless guttural must've not been supported by the expanded default font, I hope the apostrophe fixes up the mishaps for the Arabic names :steamhappy:

Googled that, its a romanization for the voiceless guttural - the voiced guttural is it the other way around. Using an apostrophe or ` is a common replacement for it but it leads to confusion between the two. For our purposes it should work haha

@The_Random_Cheese Some of the ones I see looking through the title histories: [X]Inriki, [X]Abd (sometimes NOT broken...), Da[X]iban, and Du[X]a[X]. I'm missing some accent marks, and yeah the characters do show up as a box with an X in it.

I've found that I also have a rare name with a broken character in it, it seems to usually be in the front of the name and shows up in arabic and muslim names. I do have a mod that changes the font, "[CM] Vanilla: Aesthetic & Performance", but it shows pretty much all accented characters except those ones.

i don't think my mods change the fonts, but i could be wrong. here is the list of mods, in case anybody else is using them and notices crashes

Important reminder that any mods that change the game's font will conflict with this, More Character Names makes use of an expanded version of the default font by allowing more unique letters and accents to be used.

Any mods that change the font will conflict and cause names that make use of unique letters/accents will appear with underscores.

@Greedy Capitalist - I've sent you a friend request! I really appreciate your help, I hope to get down to the root of the issue, if you don't mind me asking, do you by chance use any mods that alter the fonts?

My mod makes use of one that allows for names with different characters and accents to appear.

i can confirm the crashes myself. was playing as mogadishu in 867, and i would see a crash about a hundred years in. this happened three times over the past few days. the date differed each game, but when it crashed, it crashed on the same date for that game. disabling this mod fixed the crashes, but lmk if you want to see my full modlist.

i also saw those names with underscores in them, btw. and when i read my crash logs, it looked like part of the reason for the crash was schemes on invalid names. feel free to DM me for the debug and error logs!

also, don't beat yourself up about the bug, they happen. i understand debugging is frustrating, but i believe you'll be able to figure out the problem! again, i'm glad to help by providing my logs.
