I guess the starting point would be to understand what the channels do in each texture.

The Specular file is:
Red - recolour map
Green - Spec
Blue - Metal
Alpha - Gloss [inverse of rough]

Normal is:
Red and Green - normal red
Blue - emissive
Alpha - normal green

PBR texturing is half art and half science. You need to get a feel for how different values look in-game. Stellaris' metalness for instance is a little different than how Blender might render it.

Keep in mind you can make changes to textures during the game and reload with the console command:
"reload texture"

I know this is a time consuming process which most would not bother to explain, but if you could, what would be the checklist of things to do in order to achieve a textured model in stellaris. I understand how to place it in game with a texture, but the technical steps, I can't piece together, Blender > Texture with nodes> export as just a diffuse> make norm and spec maps with image software > tweak the channels > jorodox to apply. something like that idk I've modeled the SDF ships from Infinite warfare but I'm not sure what to do next about textures. The tools i'm mainly use are - Gimp, Blender and jorodox. help would be appreciated

You've got a couple of options depending on how much money you want to spend!

You can look for any PBR based texturing tool. On the cheap though, if you look for a height to normal map converter you can 'easily' make a greyscale height map from your textures in Photoshop or something and then convert it that way.

Hi there, im working on a custom shipset for my mod and I was wondering how you made your normal and specular maps? I'm using Gimp.

I also have an unorthodox suggestion for a shipset. I suggest the hysperians due to how unique their stuff looks. Might need more creativity for them since I think they only have one ship the monaveen but it looks cool.

On a priority list where would the shipsets for the Orions, Tellarites, and Andorians be currently?
Nyx (She/Her) 10 May @ 2:35pm
Weird request if you're ever up for it, but, a Herald/Iconian ship set would be cool
ShiaLaBunion5 18 Apr @ 12:34pm
Are there any downscaled ships patches anywhere?
walshicus  [author] 16 Apr @ 1:09am
Possibly, but preparing for 4.0 is my priority right now.

Zionus - I'm not sure. A lot of the designs included here were never released in STO itself, but were shown off as concept art during the community vote events.

Urban - thanks! Andorians will probably not be too far off, other work dependent.

These look amazing, I'd love to see some Andorian or Breen shipsets in the future to use outside of New Civilizations. These are all so well done and I had to get all of them and every new one that releases
Zionus5 19 Mar @ 1:02pm
Is ST online stilll doing stuff with these guys? I quit playing when they took the foundry down.
tilarium 18 Mar @ 12:04pm
@anton would be the one Walshicus shipset I don’t download. I like a couple of their ship designs, but most of them are so drastically different, I have to force myself through their era in NC

Disco Shipset
Ocelot 18 Mar @ 10:13am
ah, jeeze. another one with no compatibility for the 4th most downloaded mod on stellaris.
Major Dude 18 Mar @ 9:03am
@KayinDreemurr yes i think the same ^^
tilarium 17 Mar @ 9:57am
Oooooo. This one is pretty!
KayinDreemurr 16 Mar @ 6:24pm
Very much hoping the Andorians are next.

I have no clue who the Lukari are, but these still look cool~!
Steele 16 Mar @ 11:26am
Very nice!!!
Wasabiface 15 Mar @ 4:08pm
I don't know who the Lukari are, I'm guessing from Star Trek Online. But regardless, this is a fantastic shipset. Excellent work!
paulo 14 Mar @ 8:49am
HELLYEAH! Thanks! One more shipset for my Playset(s). :steamhappy:
walshicus  [author] 14 Mar @ 6:53am

Tzenkethi need a lot of work to get a set out of.

Next standalone set might be Andorians, but it'll be a while away due to some STNC content that's taking priority.
tredavidson77 13 Mar @ 9:45pm
So are the Tzenkethi ships planned for the near future?
Mack Daddy 13 Mar @ 3:57pm
Om nom nom good shipsets
Roland 13 Mar @ 3:56pm
Lukari who? LMAO. Walshicus is the Uber-Grand-Ship-Architect-Of-The-Universe! It really doesnt matter if I know what a Lukari is, I just know a freaking good shipset when I see one! Yeah Buddy! Hey Walshicus, I am looking for some Battlestar Galactica Ship-set Love, any interest? also NSC compatibility is really a good thing. Thanks Buddy, be well. Happier already.
Beatrice Cerise 13 Mar @ 3:36pm
These standalone shipsets are always a joy! Excellent work!
Archivist77 13 Mar @ 2:55pm
