is this compatible with bill door's jams?
milkwater  [author] 27 Aug @ 7:39pm
Some Cossack Fetus, NGL I don't like this mod very much anymore so probably not, I think there are better ways to solve the problem I was having lol
Some Cossack Fetus 27 Aug @ 6:52pm
hey, wil the mod be updated to 1.6?
cfleager99 2 Jun @ 6:13pm
can you make a version of this that does not look like follout pipe guns because during game play i thought it looked a little weird and make it have vanilla textures if you can thank you and keep up the good work
Mad Marl 11 Mar @ 5:12pm
i saw a guy make a semi-auto slamfire shotgun that could be a cool alternative to the chain shotgun. functions on the same principles mentioned by someone else, but has a spring loaded magazine. im not entirely certain of how it all works, but it looks cool and seemed to work pretty well
LarsSvengard 16 Feb @ 10:55am
wait it already works
Huehuecóyotl 14 Feb @ 10:08pm
Crossbow limbs are definitely tough, since you kind of have to make them from a three-quarter top angle and it's hard to make it not look uncanny with the limbs being too short from the perspective.

If you'd like a coding challenge to make some distinction between my shotgun and the one you already made, you could try to code in a "Fail to fire, try again" mechanic, where it has the 85% chance of going off like your current pipe weapon mod here, but if it fails then instead of trying again from start it JUST factors in the aiming time, not the firing delay cooldown? Since realistically you'd just need to aim and pull again if you somehow didnt slam it back hard enough to set the shell off the first time. Idk if you watched the Forgotten Weapons video on the loading and use of the mechanism, but if not I highly recommend ya do so it makes more sense! Not sure if that's even possible with Rimworld's mechanics, but it'd certainly be interesting!

Huehuecóyotl, I have good and bad news. The good news is I think your shotgun looks pretty awesome and I will definitely turn it into a weapon if thats okay. The bad news is I already drew the one I saw earlier and I implemented it just now as a new weapon.

I tried to draw some crossbows from Kenshi and I didn't really like how they turned out so I deleted them all in shame. I will try and draw them again, its just hard to get the crossbow limbs right in my mind.

As far as the pipe shotgun, the one on the fallout 4 Nexus had to copy the animation set from the double barrel so it's really janky. The scale is also way off, the pipe is WAY too big for the 12 gauge shell it's chambered in. The beauty of the homemade pipe shotgun is that the 3/4" pipe almost perfectly fits 12 gauge shells. Though if that's still not your style you could always just make it look like a scrappier rougher breech loading shotgun, the sprite could look like the VE double barrel but with more "pipe" to it, if that makes sense. Honestly though the pipe shotgun mod for F4 is pretty bad from a technical perspective, I wouldn't recommend looking to it for inspiration lol

https://i.imgur.com/5hJwkkN.png Here's the pipe shotgun I made for reference. Literally just pipe wrapped aggressively in paracord for grip texture with a nail inside to act as a firing pin.
Huehuecóyotl 10 Feb @ 9:34am
Kenshi has a full detailed wiki you can use to get depictions and models of the crossbows I suggested, if that's the route you want to take. They're all very uniquely styled as well so it shouldn't be any hassle to depict them and have them be visually distinct. There's actually a lot of Kenshi mods for Rimworld, if you had the time you could even look into collabing and getting patches made so they use your mod's crossbows.
milkwater  [author] 10 Feb @ 6:27am
Huehuecóyotl, thanks for the detailed writeup. I have been inspired to make the pipe shotgun and I will implement it soon. This pipe shotgun is based on a mod I found on the nexus mod workshop, but its not a slamfire one, just a big old pipe with some attachments.

I did find a really cool looking slamfire shotgun but im not sure how to make it into a mod, like since its a solo gun i probably should find some more before I release that.

And I love the crossbow idea, I wonder how hard it would be to draw one. I will need to find inspiration somehow. Having a big crossbow mod would be fun for all playthroughs I think, you could be medieval or industrial and still use them.
Huehuecóyotl 9 Feb @ 9:21pm
As far as other suggestions go, you could look to Kenshi's crossbows as another inspired source of apocalypse-style weapons that would fill an open niche in the game. Between the Junkbow, Toothpick, Ranger, Spring Bat, Oldworld Bow MK I and II, and Eagle's Cross there are entire tiers of progression the player could go through, and while they'd suffer in fire rate and power compared to their gun contemporaries they'd be silent for hunting and overall cheaper to get in high quantities of. In Kenshi it's actually a genuine concern for your archers armed with Eagles Crosses that they may outright one-shot your own troops via friendly fire because they're so powerful. And if you use ammo mods, they'd use lower tech arrows compared to industrial made bullets, so even the more advanced crossbows could remain relevant as your ammo production catches up.
Huehuecóyotl 9 Feb @ 9:21pm
Multiple comments because of steam's character limit, bear with me;
Ian from Forgotten Weapons did a video on a gunsmith who actually "professionally" made slamfire shotguns which saw military use as ambush weapons used by Philippine guerrillas against Japanese occupying forces, as a kind of "Liberator" type of gun where you get an ambush kill and loot a better gun from your target. That sounds exactly like what you're going for, cheaper entry level early guns you can arm with before you get better stuff either from looting trading or crafting, if I'm reading ya right.
Huehuecóyotl 9 Feb @ 9:20pm
Well, as far as improvised firearms go, you can't go wrong with a slamfire shotgun. If there ever was a gun that could be crafted without components it'd be that, literally just two tubes and a nail. I've made one myself, and I did so before I even knew the difference between different kinds of shotshlls (mainly different sizes of birdshot). In game it would deal the same damage as the pump shotgun, with lower fire rate because it's clunky to reload even if you make a nice one. As a player I can imagine even after getting better gun tech, making a big pile of slamfire shotguns as a way to arm temporary faction members, like refugees or similar. Or say a big group of growth vat soldiers, or guards in an Outpost.
Johnny 9 Feb @ 1:19pm
no worries, thats some very reasonable costs! tho would be cool if they were available to craft a bit earlier than their counterparts
milkwater  [author] 9 Feb @ 12:14pm
Johnny, Sorry about that. I will add this to the description.

These CAN be crafted as you follow the normal research path, so like machining, gunsmithing, blowback operation, etc.

Each weapon is very cheap to create. For example the pipe revolver is 15 steel and 1 component, which is half the crafting cost of the vanilla revolver.

My idea was that you would find these pipe guns early on in raids, and then research and craft better guns, like the vanilla pistols or the bolt action. :ponyisland:
Johnny 9 Feb @ 12:06pm
would be nice if the description mentioned the costs of the weapons
currently using vanilla expanded makeshift weapons but I find those too expensive for being low tier guns and was looking for an alternative
are these not craftable early on either?
TrippyV 9 Feb @ 9:07am
I love fallout so I'm super excited about this. The sprites look great!
milkwater  [author] 9 Feb @ 7:09am
Huehuecóyotl, Thanks for the kind words, yes I did the sprites myself. I use a program called Krita, it's a lot of fun.

I think this mod is in a finished state now, but I am down to take suggestions for future content. I mostly made this mod because I really wanted BAD weapons in my game so I had a reason to upgrade, so maybe it would be better if these improvised weapons worked like normal guns?

Also I like the glowing reference. I know at weapon buyback programs people build really crummy improvised firearms to get some money I might look at what those look like.
Huehuecóyotl 9 Feb @ 3:43am
The art on these looks really good, did you do the sprite work yourself? If you don't mind, I've got some real world experience with improvised firearms, I'd love to throw some suggestions at ya if you're looking to expand the weapon pack.

(not glowing, it's all done 100% legal and under safe circumstances lol)
Creepy User 8 Feb @ 7:18pm
It's called shootin straight, rookie!
milkwater  [author] 8 Feb @ 10:59am
GreenFire835, Don't worry I did not think your comment was rude. I think adding more weapons to this mod is outside the scope of the project, but I will investigate the Metro stuff and maybe make another mod. I do like the idea of having Rust guns in game so I might also do those. Thanks for the suggestions! I have some more fallout stuff coming soon and then I might do a big gun mod. I just really like to draw.
GreenFire835 8 Feb @ 10:48am
@milkwater

sorry if I came off as rude when I asked why FO4's pipe weapons. The mod is still great and well made, I just thought FO4's pipe weapons were... well, not exactly the best fit for "pipe" weapons. (Bethesda's fault - they don't know how to make a good looking gun. Just look at the FO4 assault rifle :P)

As for pipe weapons you could prob add, things like the duplet, ashot, or the bastard (all from Metro) could fit pretty well. The hellsing (also from Metro, rotary crossbow thing) would be a cool addition. Rust is also a good candidate for pipe / scrap weapons (the SAR, AK, scrap pistol / revvy, double barrel, etc etc).

And for the funni - a potato cannon. :griefer:

have not one, not two, but several great days. (and nights.)
milkwater  [author] 8 Feb @ 4:13am
negimagi_10, I will add it to my to-do list. I have never tried doing a muzzle flash patch before so it may take some time.
negimagi_10 8 Feb @ 12:24am
hey Milkwater great mod. any chance you will be able to patch in muzzle flash to your guns? for me that is like the only thing preventing me from using them in my current playthrough.
Teamson 7 Feb @ 1:36pm
Nice!!
SirTalis 7 Feb @ 5:24am
CE patch posted.
Lambda 6 Feb @ 5:55pm
It'd be cool if the other guns also had bayonet versions
SilverWolf347 6 Feb @ 4:36pm
You should add the pipe shotgun from Fallout 4's concept art.
milkwater  [author] 6 Feb @ 2:42pm
SirTalis, That would be awesome! My only requirement would be to include my mod as a dependency to your patch. :winter2019happyyul:
SirTalis 6 Feb @ 1:21pm
If I wrote a CE patch, would I have permission to publicly post it? (With proper credits, of course)
HIVEMIND 6 Feb @ 12:12pm
no CE go broke
Beep Posting 6 Feb @ 11:33am
adolf here hates ce because it killed his dad
Nishe 5 Feb @ 11:22pm
Idk why people are asking questions about why this was made. We have the rare pokemon that is a gun mod that actually adds unique flavour to the game rather than adding a bloated list of 50 slightly different variations of the same real world gun and people are complaining.

Great mod m8, I'm a fan
Local 5 Feb @ 6:22pm
amazing
Thetaprime 5 Feb @ 4:24pm
LambaFan - cuz there are plenty of mods where the guns rip holes in space and time.
Опарыш мощный 5 Feb @ 4:35am
pipe bomb XD
LambdaFan 5 Feb @ 2:05am
Why would you make a mod about (objectively) the WORSE guns in the entirety of Fallout? :mhpatchie:
milkwater  [author] 4 Feb @ 3:03pm
GreenFire835, I thought it would be fun to draw the pipe guns from fallout 4 since they had such interesting designs and decided to make it into a real mod! What kind of pipe weapons do you like? There are some cool designs from Rust for example I might make later...

Gerewoatle, thank you! In my mind, I like to create things and I thought that if it brings me joy, it will probably bring someone else joy, so I share the things I create with everyone, just in case someone will enjoy it alongside me! :starite:
milkwater  [author] 4 Feb @ 2:55pm
Fawx, Yes they have all the necessary tags to spawn on raiders! You will likely see them in the early game, alongside whatever melee weapons and pistols you have installed on Raiders!
Gerewoatle 4 Feb @ 2:21pm
@GreenFire835 - Why do you feel like a free mod needs justification? The answer to "why FO4 pipe weapons?" really doesn't need to be anything other than "because that's what the mod author chose to make."
GreenFire835 4 Feb @ 1:37pm
I don't wanna be mean or anything, but... like... why FO4's pipe weapons...?

don't get me wrong, this is a good mod, and it's going in my modlist... but of all pipe weapons, why FO4's?

(imma give you a few awards just because I don't want to be a total ass. sorry if I came off as rude btw.)
Fawx 4 Feb @ 1:22pm
Do they spawn on enemy raiders?
UZQueen 3 Feb @ 11:45pm
This mod is very awesome, seriously.
- It might be weird to use a translator, but I really like this mod.
