@mdiasdesign this wasn’t intended to be like the conscientious objector where you can make this and have everybody else see it, it’s meant to be like the hat importer where it’s for uploading to the workshop

currently war paint creators are really limited when they want to make a war paint. other item types have better tools and war paints have nothing. this submission is a hope for that

While it may be unlikely that Valve will re-create/implement this importer concept exactly, it is important to know that they already have the means themselves to streamline the War Paint modification process. This is further implied through a leaked screenshot a while ago showing off what appeared to be an in-house importer for War Paints - which we don't have access to.

What matters in the end is creators having access to more advanced tools. Given Valve's recent support for V-script in maps and similar, propositions outlined in this submission are entirely within Valve's reach.

as much as I would love to see this added, too; why dont you band up with other folks to mod this into the game? submitting this as a proof of concept is useless because it's very, very doubtful that Eric Smith would do something beyond adding community-made cosmetics.

I think when they say «orientation lock» they mean rotation lock which is set via «Rotation» option.

@Real Reality (Real) Albedo tint is set through the VMT section as it is a VMT file. Orientation lock is set through the transform x,y values. Just set the range to 0:0.
As for setting these values per group: it's impossible with the current way patterns are handled within the game. Values and attributes like orient. lock, albedo tint, etc. must be done per-texture. Groups are only a means to apply each texture onto each weapon per its' set values.
Lastly with custom war paints: that's what the UV paint window's for.

Also custom everything on textures. U get to pick which groupings get orientation lock, albedo tint, gradients. That grouping system is so fucking genius you could do so much with it. Also please have have a way to have custom tailored war paints like dragon slayer. ALSO THIS WOULD PROBABLY MEAN WARPAINTABLE DRAGONS FURY. ADD IT VALVE PLEASE I BEG OF YOU GABEN

@Conflagration It's Valve. You can't be sure at anything. Like, do we thought that Vscript would be a thing a 3 years earlier? No. What about Gas Passer fix? We thought it was set in stone. The last comic? Maybe in dream, but yet we here and I'm not waking up no matter how much I'm pinching myself. So look, Valve can do this thing if it would be a lucky day. And at least we could trying - it not looks like something fishy happening under this initiative in the end.
