@obsidious so making a new genotype is incredibly easy, it was about as complex as changing graphics settings in a .ini file. It's been enough time that I don't even remember 100% of what I did but the part where I had to get a coder involved to script stuff was when I wanted it to do custom things like start with missing limbs and behave the way I wanted in regard to tonics, there was easy things to set, something like ismutant=1 and istruekin=1 in the xml file, was simple enough but then they got truekin's stronger tonic effects so instead we just went with ismutant=1 and then the script removes limbs on game start and gives access to cybernetics machines

Ooo, I've been looking for a mod that allows access to both power systems but starting from a baseline of almost-mutant rather than almost-truekin like the Mechanimist Genotypes mod! Definitely subscribing!

Also, I mean to start modding when I can, and I am likely to start with XML and then learn to code: out of interest, where did you run into the issues with putting what's in your head into the mod without scripting? Thanks for making everything freely editable too!




@Proto, that's... actually really interesting, given the theming. I know that the Rogue Robot mod advises against using other chargen mods at the same time due to such problems, but I might actually try that.

Forgive my slow, smooth brain; Just double checking. This type allows both mutations and cybernetics to be used correct? ...If so- totally understand the brutal start now.

Great mod! One issue, though: (this is more stemming from my linguistic pedantry) in the description of the mod, it should say "thy kin" instead of "thine kin". Thine is simply a form of thy used before a vowel (think 'a' vs 'an').

Regardless, this feels like the closest thing to a "deprived/challenge start" mod that Qud has - keep up the good work! :praisesun:

Crumped chimera have a very difficult start, but honestly by level 12 they are already stronger than true kin. They eventually get stronger than mutants too, though that depends heavily on finding decent cybernetics. I got more powerful than I would have been as a mutant at around level 24 when I found motorized treads.

This is probably the most balanced mod for hybrid mutant + cybernetics, but personally I'd prefer a slightly easier early game, and fewer mutation points per level to avoid inevitably scaling to be the strongest. Maybe a restriction on cybernetics as well, though I'm not sure what would be fair.

this genotype is flagged as a mutant, and given access to cybernetics through a script, to make sure that all consumables and effects that should affect someone with mutations do so appropriately

hey, for warm static, are only skills randomized or are mutations also randomized? and are there any other items that work differently for mutants and truekin that work one way or another for wretchedkin what i should know about?

there's a canteen that spawns in one of the joppa houses alongside a chest you can steal from, and at rust wells you can farm the qudzu who can't really damage you, still requires some pretty good RNG to get a win condition

i assume to get the artifacts and wires for argyle? how to i avoid or deal with enemies there though?

@... usually head to rust wells for early levels and try to get a good mutation, it's definitely a struggle though

@thread that's super strange, I don't know anything about dailies or how they work, I'd have assumed they could only be done with vanilla content because of the online leaderboards. You can only open genotypes.xml in the mod folder and change the randomweight, I set it to 50 because that's the same number mutant has and you could try messing around with it, but I have no idea if it's possible to set individual random weights for the subtypes

is there some way to get "crumped" to appear less often in dailies? i'd love to see "deprived" there, but i've seen "crumped" as the choice for the daily run multiple times since installing this mod, and i just can't do it :steamsad: thx!

@votex that's normal for a character that doesn't have tinkering. If you have tinkering and they're still "data disk"s then that's an odd bug

Not sure if this is a me problem or if its a bug in the mod but none of the data disk have names all are just titled "data dist" the only way to figure out what they teach is to look at the description

@Emong very intentional, you can still unlock it by learning wayfaring, but the "you were taught nothing" extends to not knowing how to make a campfire
