how do u start from scratch i have a shovel and sacks no option is coming up
Karas_Gaming 26 Sep @ 11:26am
@albion I'm sure you'll manage before B42 is going to get finished, lol. But jokes aside, thank you for this mod and the work you've already put into it, don't overwork yourself.
Smiley Face Killer 26 Sep @ 3:54am
I'm looking for a mod that's crashing me out but that's awesome news to stumble upon albion
(this mod is not the one crashing me out btw)
Dark 25 Sep @ 6:02pm
Very exciting news to hear!
Giacco 25 Sep @ 12:27pm
@albion You've already done an amazing job, I'm grateful for this mod and for your work, take all the time you need it's fantastic, anyway with the debug menu I managed to put both walls and floors.
albion  [author] 25 Sep @ 11:53am
because of new API added in 42.12, making underground areas indoors is now actually possible, but quite complex: i have completed significant work towards this feature but please be patient while i refine it, hopefully it can be released before too long
Giacco 22 Sep @ 1:06am
@albion This mod has a lot of potential. If you could add things like a hotkey for using the shovel (to avoid having to repeatedly use the context menu), being able to place walls and floors where you've dug, and being able to delete where you've dug, it would be perfect. Great mod, great work.
albion  [author] 19 Sep @ 9:29pm
no, i may add that at a later time
SwamPMonstR 19 Sep @ 9:18pm
is it possible to fill the hole back in?
Dark 6 Sep @ 11:22pm
Really exciting mod. Love the idea of creating and expanding a basement base.
farshmello 3 Sep @ 6:13am
@BROKONTOL, Just don't forget to bring the materials for the new staircase, otherwise you'll live underground like a dwarf.
farshmello 3 Sep @ 6:12am
@BROKONTOL, Break the earthen ladder with a sledgehammer. Then build a new one from the construction menu.
BROKONTOL 2 Sep @ 12:08am
how can i change the ladder?
chicken leg 26 Aug @ 3:42am
how would B41 even support this mod..? it would literally be impossible
albion  [author] 21 Aug @ 8:55am
never
zafycom 21 Aug @ 8:53am
b41 support?
Pupernickel 10 Aug @ 4:02pm
i didnt know that it only can use 2 directions and now i have a way down completely the wrong way. how can i remove it?
chicken leg 8 Aug @ 2:34am
why is pol pot supporting this mod
Red Dye #40 7 Aug @ 2:07pm
I love this mod so far, it gives so much more opportunity. This should be a base game feature. Maybe it will come in 15 years when build 42 officially comes out.
I have one question though, and i'm not sure if it's a problem in base game or this mod because I've never built walls in a vanilla basement on account of them being too small for my booze bunker.
But how do I build walls that I cannot jump? I can easily jump over any of the walls, and it kinda ruins the idea I attempted where I could build a small kill zone in the event that an NPC bandit tried killing me.
chicken leg 7 Aug @ 12:19am
its okay you dont need to thank any of us, you just seemed like you needed some support since people are asking the same question nearly everyday, it can drive ppl insane brotato

and yeah, i do occasionally see ppl getting toxic and insulting you (though EXTREMELY rarely, ive seen this just once or twice) but the fact ppl do that at all is weird, you werent the one who coded the game; you're just trying to make do with what you have.
albion  [author] 6 Aug @ 9:42pm
thank you for your efforts, and i'm very happy that with how much toxicity other modders seem to face, the biggest problem i have is having to repeat myself a bit
chicken leg 6 Aug @ 9:40pm
though most of the solutions (like two so far) just numb the problem, not solve it really
but we do try our best to help you if we can- (like answering them for you, though we could just direct them to the FAQ now at least)
chicken leg 6 Aug @ 9:39pm
i noticed, though some of us try our best to tell them before they ask you directly ^^
either that or i just give them somewhat of a solution to sorta make them stop asking-
albion  [author] 6 Aug @ 9:35pm
yeah, it's getting a bit much 😅 after writing that last reply i wrote an FAQ about it: it's linked in the description now
chicken leg 6 Aug @ 8:32pm
the fact this has to be explained nearly 18 times within the past month is crazy
cant people just scroll down?
albion  [author] 6 Aug @ 11:53am
there's already walls and a roof (the dirt around and above you), the game just doesn't care as long as you're underground - only predefined basements are considered indoors or protected from rain
Kriston 6 Aug @ 11:52am
in code
Kriston 6 Aug @ 11:52am
What about just spawn roof when you dig and walls?
albion  [author] 5 Aug @ 1:16pm
@Kouhei Gaming YT vanilla basements are indoors because they are pre-defined as rooms. it is impossible for mod code to create a room, and the region manager (responsible for turning player constructions into rooms dynamically) does not run underground
chicken leg 5 Aug @ 12:59pm
Yeah, the only way people have figured out to not get rained on in basements is to pair this with a tent mod that blocks rain in the immediate area but im not sure how they made tents to do that?
maybe something similar could be achieved for this mod hopefully
Kouhei Gaming YT 5 Aug @ 12:58pm
How do you not get rained on in pre generated basements? Try looking into the code they used to accomplish that, like is it flooring above or do you need a house above or what it feels like the answer would be in the existing code for basements, an additional idea is maybe you could add a new flooring tile called a "foundation" that will block the rain (idk anything about the engine or lua but im trying to contribute my ideas to help)
albion  [author] 5 Aug @ 8:33am
it's not about 'enabling' it, it's an engine level limitation
Nova𓋹 5 Aug @ 8:30am
when will you enable excavated areas to be indoors? so we dont get rained on?
Wolvi666 1 Aug @ 1:41am
Is possibile to rise temperature insade basement ot comfort levels?
Arcterian 29 Jul @ 11:49am
Im curious but if I use this mod and dig around my base will it be like a moat around it.
ravenwolfxd 27 Jul @ 12:02pm
can I put light in there?
albion  [author] 25 Jul @ 12:16pm
i think that's supposed to work too, may be a regression at some point
Zaco Kick 25 Jul @ 12:12pm
Aw i see, i tried doing the normal M1 and drag method. Cool Thanks
albion  [author] 25 Jul @ 12:04pm
you can switch between digging stairs south or west by pressing R while the dig cursor is active
you can't dig north or east because the resulting stairs would face the camera, which blocks visibility while on them - the game itself has no stairs facing these directions for the same reason
Zaco Kick 25 Jul @ 11:42am
Oh and also, if it's possible and you haven't thought of it, being able to rotate the direction the stairs face would be huge
Zaco Kick 25 Jul @ 11:06am
Awesome, looking forward to the new walls to replace the dirt and you should make it to where you can replace the dirt ramp with stairs. you can sledge hammer the dirt ramp, although i recommend having a way out afterwards...
Igoreuss 25 Jul @ 7:06am
Is there any way to make power work in dug out basements/basement expansions? despite me building one below my house it gets no power at all
chicken leg 8 Jul @ 3:50pm
@PrometheanExile i do, you dont even need the link for it as the name is "[B41] [B42] Camp in the Rain.
for some reason it protects the basement from rain, snow or being soaked so long as its nearby the immediate tent
PrometheanExile 8 Jul @ 8:21am
@chicken leg You wouldn't happen to have the link to that mod would you?
chicken leg 3 Jul @ 8:32am
ye it doesnt, the only way i've made it not be effected by snow OR rain is adding a mod that makes the areas on tents and around them the ability to not be rained on, so you dont wake up with puddles around you or wet.
it works great with this mod since it prevents basements from doing one of the most glaring issues with this mod which imo is a great fix ^^
albion  [author] 2 Jul @ 10:49am
it doesn't
Viren 2 Jul @ 10:11am
Regarding the Issue of digging out new basement areas being effected by Rain, if you build a structure above the effected area do we know if this fixes it? I will test it myself if not but will probably be a little bit before I get a room built lol
Dragongod2o0 1 Jul @ 10:43pm
@homicidalmanda its seems like you can avoid the nukes sickening effect but you are exposed to the affects of normal weather and wind chill
Lord Khaos 27 Jun @ 2:22pm
Thanks for your timely reply! I look forward to seeing this mod develop :3
albion  [author] 27 Jun @ 2:18pm
there is no cave in mechanic yet so you don't need to build supports, but it's intended that any kind of pillar or wall will provide support
there isn't a way to fill in basements currently, but you can just build floors/walls over the entrance(s)
