I have been struggling for a while to make a White Walker like faction. Or even just a fun snow Dragon one. Reading how things work the game just doesn't really provide the full tools for a snow/ice based play through. Then I came here and found your tomes. Looking forward to trying these out, they look like just the sort of thing to scratch that itch for a good and proper fun time in the snow!

The tome art is based on existing tome art as you can see the book cover and pages look the same as other base game tomes. For Tome of Endless Winter, I used Tome of Cryomancy as a base. I generated AI art for the mountains since I can't draw, then I painted in the snow and ice covering the rest of the book. Heavy editing to make the colors match and to add the glowing effects.

For the icons I followed the same steps. Mixed usage of base game icons and AI generated art whenever I needed something unique. Painting and editing. I go through many iterations making sure the icons match with the tome and with the style of the base game icons.

- Fixed an issue where griffon mounts weren't showing in the portrait for the Frost Guardian.
- Reduced the PFX intensity for Domain of Endless Winter.

Patch for the Griffon update.
- Removed the rank bonuses for the Frost Guardian and Ice Queen units. They will be re-added when Shield and Mythic units get rank bonuses in the base game.
- Frozen Fury damage bonus decreased from 20% to 10%.
- Updated the PFX for Frozen Burst and Frost Nova.

For what it's worth I think the game would definitely be more interesting if more units had unique Champion bonuses, although I can imagine that would make it harder for the casual player to track (then again, how much is the casual player even aware of them?).

In any case don't go out of your way to change the Ascension trait on my account, I'm perfectly capable of editing the mod to make it do what I suggested (and I did!), and it clearly took a lot of effort I wouldn't want you to throw away.

- I can look into toning down the Domain of Winter FX.
- I wanted a unique effect for the ascension trait. I suppose players can self balance by not abusing the mount spell. I could also increase the cost of the mount. For a similar cost, players can summon strong units, and they have to spend world casting points, so there is an opportunity cost there as well.
- Yes I had rank bonuses to keep the units relevant into the late game. The game did recently add Champion rank bonuses to battlemage units, so I was considering toning down the bonuses and just keeping a bonus at Champion rank.

First, thank you for the mod and the hard work that went into it. I do have some feedback after playing with it.

The visual effect for Domain of Winter on the world map is a bit too much, especially underground. Is there a way to tone it down?

Ascension: Herald of Winter seems out of line balance-wise with the base game. I've played hundreds of hours without seeing the Severing Golem Tier IV mount once, so the ability to summon an equivalent (and arguably stronger) mount at will falls outside the power level of other ascensions by a wide margin, especially considering all the abilities it comes with. Just giving the ruler the Presence of Winter trait would already be a top tier ascension by itself.

I noticed that both Frost Guards and Ice Queens gain traits on their Veteran and Legend ranks, and I was curious as to the thought process behind that as I'm not aware of any units in the base game which do that.

@vanhaas, thanks for the kind words! I looked into your request and to do that I would have to give the Ice Queen the Frostling Transformation, which is a bit odd since transformations are usually only applied to racial units.

I do agree that units immune to frozen like Ice Queen and Snow Spirit should be immune to Arctic Blizzard. Perhaps you could post a suggestion on the official forums: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/forums/age-of-wonders-4-suggestions.1137/

I have only one suggestion, can you make the ice queen immun to Artic Blizzards, it's really fun playing as a frostling leader with artic blizzards, but the ice queen cant regenerate because of it, and take frost damage at the start of the turn

the tome is good but it created issues with auto combat. The autocombat is extremely slow once any spells/units from this tome is involved.

@Morsrealm, thank you for the report! The issue is now fixed. I did notice this bug with the Ice Queen and fixed that, but forgot to check the Scourge of Ice mount. Cheers.

Shivering Storm appears as a selectable siege project for everyone regardless of what tome or research you have. I assume that is a bug.

Tome of the Looming Frost
- Changed Shivering Storm from a Siege Project to a Combat Enchantment. Updated the icon for Shivering Storm.
- Frigid Focus now applies to all magic attacks (from base attacks only).

Tome of Endless Winter
- Updated Hailstorm's effect. Damage is now 20 Frost Damage (from 30 Frost Damage). Duration is now 5 turns (from 3). Mana cost is now 150 Mana/50 Casting Points (from 200 Mana/65 Casting Points).

@Nexious, yes thanks for the report! I've been actively testing my mods on the Ogre beta branch as well. The Ice Queen fix and some small changes will be released April 1st when the update officially comes out.

Your mod seems to have avoided the FPS issue in the ogre update (beta) that many other mods did but I did notice that the Ice Queen has merged a bit with her mount. So it might be a good idea to take a look and sort out any problems that appears in the patch.

I while back I tried to make a Snow Miser-themed empire, but with only two frost tomes I had to branch out into storm-based magic to complement the cold theme. I'll have to play him again now with this mod!

All of your tomes are very well done, and I'd argue are among the closest to vanilla balance of any I've tried while still bringing new content.

I'd be really interested in seeing your interpretation of water tomes, since that is the main spell theme from prior AOW games that hasn't had as much representation in AOW4 yet. I completely understand taking a break, and the possibility you wouldn't have any personal interest in water themes.

- Fixed a bug where unlocking the Ice Queen unit would also unlock Arcane Inspiration from the Mystic Potential subculture.

@skaz88, great catch! Not sure how I accidentally used the wrong player property. Thanks for reporting the bug.

I've noticed after taking tome of endless winter I can get inspiration for spells even when I'm not playing as mystic: potential.

I have been unable to reproduce the error except in that particular save, and I noticed other odd behaviors in that specific save (mystic attunement culture getting inspiration for potentials, for example) so I am guessing the issue is with a messed up save and not with this mod. Thanks for looking into it and for making such an excellent addition to the element of ice. I've loved playing these tomes and am so pleased not to be forced into undead if I want to play shadow now.

I am using some other mods but none of them should interact with terraforming behavior (unit mods, appearance mods, etc.) I will try to do some scoped testing with just tomes of winter this weekend if time allows and will let you know.

@Halcyon, thanks for the report! I was unable to reproduce the issue. I just started a new game game, used the DEMO cheat (with ctrl+alt+c to open the cheat console). Built the Ice Palace and cast Marching Winter, passed many turns. Didn't see the Ice Palace province terraform.

Are you using any mods? You could try the same test yourself with a new game and only Tomes of Winter enabled to rule things out.

Ice palace seems to conflict with marching winter. I see the province terraform every turn and the result is "Forest Grassland Sub-Tropical"
