I think I figured out what happened. I had an oversight on Allies Unknown Redux² that was likely messing with the dragons when it shouldn't have. I have now pushed an update that should hopefully fix this.

I just had the same problem as Sqwowykins and Zom Ace before me. A reload from before starting the mission, as Zom commented, left the dragon still on the floor, but he was able to "move" to the evac point. He remained lying on the ground, but a window broke, his body teleported to the evac zone, and I was able to use the evac button to extract him. So looks like this mission is a little buggy, especially when reloading on the mission, but the powerful soldier is worth the minor issues in my opinion.

@Sqwowykins I just had the same thing happen to me when I loaded my save at the start of the mission. The only solution for me was to load an older save and launch the mission again and then it worked.

Had the same issue where in the rescue mission, the VIP is in a laying down animation, when the door is opened, they do not stand up yet can take commands. They cannot move but can shoot, hunker and even throw the starting grenade. Since they are being considered as "alive" they cannot be carried out of the cell. Tried downing them with friendly fire to cause them to bleedout which allowed them to be carried but instantly failed the VIP retrieval condition despite them still being alive and able to be evac'd by another soldier. This caused a total mission failure and dragon did not join roster despite being evac'd by being carried while still alive.

@Styrium great, since I never touched modding myself I will just forward whatever info you need to let the author know. any price range I would have to consider? and I will consider abilities/passives in comparison to normal soldiers once I get close to the mods being released

I mean, as long as I have a kit idea making them isn't off the table. I currently have one AU species in the backlog waiting for a kit while I'm working on other, way more complex projects. Making them is super straightforward assuming the abilities don't give me any trouble.

@Styrium hopefully you see this here, I currently commissioned a mod for both the dracthyr (wow) and the dragonborn (BG3). is it possible to commission you to make an allies unknown mod for those as well? if so, can hit me up on discord or telegram (preferably) same name there

Neither, they are part of the 4th faction added by the mod "Allies Unknown" ("faction" as in Templars, Skirmishers, Reapers). There should be an option in the armory to recruit non-humans, and also a "gray market" on the world map where you can recruit leveled non-human soldiers.

But... dragons are different than other Allies Unknown soldiers. Read the "Acquiring Your Dragons" section for details.

Is there a way to spawn in the dragons for testing? I am a bit confuse don if they are a class/alien faction.

Just wanna leave it here that, from my testing, this mod is compatible with CI. I'm still working on figuring out why CerebralCloud had that issue, but I couldn't replicate it.

I see. hopefully it can get sorted out later down the line then, it would be fun to see your take on them in an AU mod. As for the required mods, I think the mod desc. says that most if not all of them are quality of life to make the models look good and "work without a hitch," like with the star wars alien heads one being called out for the invisible head for ex. Anyways, good luck with whatever project you are on as of now.

@Gamerhell The Saurian cosmetics are on my shortlist of "Good cosmetic mods to do something with them". One of the things holding me back is some of the required mods it has, I'd have to test it if it works seamlessly without them. Otherwise it's just a matter of not knowing what sort of kit to give them.

@Styrium, do you take recommendations for what cosmetic mods to adapt to Allies Unknown next? If so, I would like to suggest the Total Warhammer 2 Saurian cosmetic mod, it has some good models and I am as surprised that it has not had a AU mod made for it with how long it's been out.

@styrium Sorry for the late response. I managed to use the [WOTC] Invisible Body Parts For All (v1.3) Mod to disable wings and other decorative additions. Thanks for the help.

There are other options, but this one has helped me and not failed ever since.

@will.russell.usaf It's possible that it's just incompatible with CI. Again, I don't fully see why it would be, but I can try making them compatible at some point, if I ever figure out what the problem is.

@AgentCrocodile That part needs to be handled by another mod. If you want to deselect stuff from the customization slots you need to have empty cosmetics available. I recommend grabbing Unrestricted Customization Redux, tho Invisible Body Parts For All (or something along those lines) would work as well.

Great mod. Loving it so far.

Although, I am slightly confused as I am mainly new to XCOM 2 and Modding it as a result. However, when I happen to select Torso Gear, Thighs and Shins, I do not seem to be able to either remove or deselect the wings/tails/etc once I happen to highlight a selection by accident. Not sure if I am missing something that would give me the Empty option or if there is a specific key or option for it.

Sorry, if this is a dumb question or already answered. I've read the other replies and I'm stuck with this very issue. Thanks in advance.

@styrium, it's weird. It's not working for me and i restarted a campaign. I'm trying to incorporate it into Odd's latest MOD list, so I don't know what's conflicting with it.

damn I never got back to Cerebralcloud here. The mod hasn't been tested with CI, but, looking through CI's code, I don't see any reason for the custom covert action not to spawn, so it should work. On CerebralCloud's case it could've been an issue with the mod being added mid-campaign idk. It's weird.

@Samular Saber I don't think I'll be doing an AU Mobians mod, not really the vibes I tend to go for on my games. But as a self-contained cosmetics package it should work great if someone wanted to make it!

Yeah, that's a known bug from evac all. It basically evacs everyone in the zone one by one, but graphically you see them go all at once. It can happen that all of your soldiers get picked to evac before the VIP, which fails the mission in that milisecond that there are no soldiers with the VIP "left behind". The workaround is to always evac the VIP before hitting evac-all.

huh that sure is a weird bug, tho I don't fully get what happened. After you opened the cell the dragon stood up? Because that's intended behavior. Are you saying he stood up before you opened the cell? Because that's a bigger problem.

Either way, knowing nothing about this mod that lets you Evac All directly, my guess is that it auto-evacs all the soldiers you brought into the mission, meaning that the dragon (essentially a glorified VIP) gets left behind. Other than a possible issue with custom characters, I'd wager that it would also fail on a regular Rescue Soldier mission.

There is a mod that lets you "Evac all" directly. Word of advice to people who are using this mod and the said mod: Don't. I tried to Evac all (the prisoner woke up due to not being able to prevent security from triggering), but the game can't properly register the prisoner as rescued for some reason, automatically triggering as a failure.

@Styrium Emerald's problem is an character pool issue if they have any mods that tweak or mess with the settings of the character pool, I also thank you for fixing the issue with the maw implants and give you a 10 out of 10 would play again

@EmeraldDraklan Not fully sure what you mean, but if it's when creating dragons in the character pool they take a good while to show up, if they show up at all. No idea why that happens, probably due to the ammount of cosmetics/the length of their generator. All my tests in Strategy however appeared without issues, so I chalked it up to character pool weirdness.

And thanks to Iridar I managed to fix the MAW Implants. The code behind them is a bit spaghetti so adding on top of it was a challenge.

@LeoArcticaa yup, the wings are available on both the torso deco and thighs slots if I'm not mistaken. You can easily deselect those customizations if you want.

@TerryJameson @Noble117 Oh no really, ugh I'll look into why. Getting the MAW implants to work properly has been such a headache
