i figured as much. not sure why the limit is 4 manifold connections. not sure if there is any ability to remove that limit. maybe you can make it like 2 cylinders in one? i know sw doesn't like part clipping but i have literally zero modding experience so i'm not sure whats actually possible.

it seems to be a game limitation that allows me to only have 4 connection points on the 1x1 vee cylinders, but i might be able to fit more somehow? idk. id love to ask the devs for more source info about modular engines so i could make straight manifolds work too but ofc im banned from Stormworks Official and have no direct communication with the devs

hey i got a suggestion for the vee cylinders. how about some side manifold connectors so they can connect forwards/backwards; similar to the 1x1 cylinders. that way you don't need a bulky manifold on top of the engine. or is there something that prevents you from doing that? like you can only have 4 manifold connectors? i find it kind of odd that something like that hasn't been suggested yet. or is there some other reason that this isn't possible?

i might just model my own 1x1 flywheel, they seem to be inactive and it would be a hassle to get in contact with them, i also left Stormworks Modding Forum so i cant find them there.

i'll have to contact the person that made said part and see if i can get the original files so it doesnt bork the vehicles that used it. or i could add my own. have you asked the maker of that mod to migrate it to steam?

it isnt a 1x1 flywheel, its a 3x3 flywheel that attaches to 3x3 crankshafts. i didnt even know there was a mod with a 1x1 flywheel

i actually have modelled straight versions of the intake and fuel manifolds. but sadly something is hardcoded and i cant get them to function no matter how hard i try, i may try to revisit this later on but i'll have to see if its hardcoded still or if i can get a dev to unlock components in that way.
-as for the manifolds, im not exactly sure what limits me on the manifold count for the vee cylinders as they class as 1x1s but of course little over twice the power. im able to put a max of 4 manifold connections. 3 visible and one invisible. i just need to be allowed to add another invisible and it would work perfectly
-sadly i dont think i can animate belt function parts like the pump and alt.

and an extra thing ive considered doing is actually making a 2 long air filter, but im unsure if i can exactly make the component function as two. or if i'll have to model just half of it and have the users place them in two halves

Last but not least, do you think it would be possible to add some kind of invisible manifold attachement point to the V cylinders so they would attach directly to one another without having to use a s*** load of manifolds?

These are obviously just be QoL suggestions, and I'm not here BEGGING for you to add anything. Just giving some ideas for you if you're bored!

Hey Apollo, I had some suggestions for you.

The air filter is amazing, and even tho you really gotta use two of them to get it centered on a V8 base, something came to my mind. Whenever you want to have a useable air-filter for a V8, it always stands way up, generally with a pipe going to a manifold or a sideways manifold. And I thought maybe having a vertical version of the air-intake manifold that would kind of look like half a carburettor, with the other half being a fuel intake would make things look way better and unlock new engine designs. Both parts could be named "Carburettor Air Intake" and Carburettor Fuel Intake", behave the same as normal manifolds too.

I also thought about versions of the alternator and/or water pump with static fans as a little detail, or even animated if possible (no idea if it would actually work with the game's code, nor if it's complicated either).

as for wankel rotaries. unfortunately a lot of part behavior is hardcoded. easiest rotaries i could make would be prefab with rotor count variants. but again that ties into last comment

radials can be made with vee cylinders and standard cylinders but they look kinda odd. theres a mod that will have really high detail radials come out. i might make some prefab radials though it sounds fun. i got lots of engine modding to learn though. they arent as simple as modulars for some reason

Yeah, sorry, I meant a radial. I'm a silly billy. I know you can make them out of modular parts, but then half your space is just wasted with manifolds and stuff, so a simpler one would be nice, maybe 3x3x2 and a 5x5x4 kinda sized ones.

Would you be able to make a rotary engine that isn't modular though? A power shaft going through the middle, and the rest of the ports on one end? They're normally air cooled, so don't need coolant ports, so maybe only fuel, air, and two exhausts arranged in a plus around the rear with the power shaft coming out the front?

rotary engines would have to be a prefab engine, i dont really know any way on how to introduce those to the game in a modular way. even rotor by rotor by stacking it would be weird to make

@Benny47 the vee cylinders dont transfer cylinder to cylinder without manifolds across the entire length, might be on me, either the code for the engine is very needy and has to have specific locations and rotations for the connecting manifolds, or i somehow misconfigured one of the params in the xml file that dont allow it to transfer lengthways. so for the time being use manifolds to bridge them all together or use other cylinders on the sides

I could be doing something wrong, but i notices that the V engine components don't transfer air, fuel and coolant when they are placed next to each other like the standard ones do.
Am I doing something wrong or is this just a bug?

Aye bro since it seems like you know your way around modding the engines, would you be able to make it so I can reverse the flow of the impeller so I can use exhaust/fluid flow to produce RPS at the rps node (ie pump exhaust into the impeller which would create rotation that i can use)? For ages I've wanted to make a proper turbo but the base game doesn't allow it and I dont have the modding/coding skills to do it myself. THANKS

im pretty sure the max rps is hardcoded and i wouldnt plan to raise it anyway due to cooling. people dont know how to cool their engines at all and i'll end up with a million questions on how to cool the high rps. game wasnt designed for it

A year ago I xml some part like a compact seat that has HOTAS output ( at that time I was not able to change the model ) and when you charge a vehicle with it without the mod the game just load the vehicle without the part. so I think this is fine

Oh quick note, this mod does not replace any parts! it only adds components, so if you build a vehicle with these make sure to mark that it has a mod. incase the devs dont have a failsafe for that and you try spawning something only for it to break.
