@JLW2490 that is the Gather quest item - its a magic MacGuffin which you need to find in the Fanatic unlock quest. It's just there because the Flayed has an Inventory Activate quest, and Fanatic is the Anti-Flayed, and Gather is the Anti-Inventory-Activate. In short, don't worry about it.

Upon completing the mission there was a strange relic. Was I suppose to use it immediately? It's not showing up in the trinkets or the provisions.

He drops the Broken Halo, an item which switches a hero's faith to Religious. Other than that, his drops are identical to the Flayed's drops, minus the Truthbearer item.

In the future he may drop some trinkets, but those are still being designed.
