I will be honest, I think I'm getting more used to the new textures, but yeah, my point still stands overall in other cases of other items. Hopefully it wasn't me being too picky, but I appreciate the conversation nonetheless.
I also would like to know if it's okay to you if I upload a mod to Gamebanana with the old textures, for those who prefer. I was also thinking in making a project of archiving old materials / models of items, now that I know how to download specific depots on Steam. Things like the old Cool Breeze and stuff. Anything after the Steampipe distribution system came out, since I can't download depots before that.
It's up to you if you would like to avoid late edits or not to future items, but, as for my stance, I generally don't support the idea. I think other games with "Skins" tend to avoid even glaring fixes since the whole concept of people may already have invested in that appearance may dislike the update.
Kinda cool to see my set made on HLMV made by someone else, haha. Good luck to your future additions to the game.
About the loadout you sent, you can clearly see a difference of texturing on the Wiki Cap and the outfit lol, the past texture on the Dusk Duster feels a bit gaudy in comparison, sadly we are not allowed to publish new styles after an item was released
Hello, thanks for the response. Firstly, I will respect your choice, and ultimately, it was Valve's choice to update the materials to the live game. If this was pushed the moment the item got in, I probably wouldn't have much an issue, but I'm still not a big fan of creators updating their item's texture or model like how it has happened here, especially months (and sometimes even years) after the item got in. Some may liked the more "simple" look of the Cool Breeze that is now no longer possible to wear since that item's materials got changed to match the update that Gaelic Garb did (yeah I remember that).
I already had a Heavy loadout made with the Dusk Duster that I feel like it was better before the latest patch: https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/7/77/User_Gabrielwoj_Heavy_F.png / https://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/a/a1/User_Gabrielwoj_Heavy_F_BLU.png . The noisy and darker areas fit the overall theme very well.
I wouldn't call "a fix", but this was likely Valve's wording and not yours. I do still think that these material changes should be styles instead. I know that this item already has 2 styles, so that would be like 4 styles in total. Perhaps styles would be "Sunset", "Twilights", "Ye Olde Sunset", "Ye Olde Twilights", or something along these lines.
For me, the noise made a great difference to other Heavy shirt / coat items, and in a good way. It looked pretty much perfect for me, which is why I built the loadout I just sent pictures of. I carefully choose items to fit the best as possible, and not just equip things due to their rarity or value (except the Wiki Cap I guess, lol). The darker-looking colors meant it fit the Wiki Cap very well, as well that the War Goggles has a darker paint can effect so Team Spirit went great with everything else.
Which is ultimately why I don't like item changes being made months / years after being added, not just this one in specific, especially because people may have already invested in the item directly from the Market or in Metal, and had no idea they could just be changed like that, on a whim.
So I believe that sometimes, it's better to just the leave the item as-is, or, include what you feel it's better as separate styles. Valve do update items to include styles they forget, so maybe they would include for new materials, I dunno.
I'd be very happy if you could attempt reverting the changes, and making this new version into 2 separate styles. But regardless, this is more of a Valve problem than of item creators, so I will respect either choice. I do still have the materials and models before December 16, 2024 Patch, in case you lost them (overwrote them when making the new changes, or something), so feel free to ask me for them if you'd like.
I did plan to update the texture the minute it got added into the game, just delayed it a bit
While I will still use it, I still wish these types of things didn't happen. Valve should add noticeable item-changes as styles, not completely replacing them, since people may have already invested their money directly from market purchases (not from uncrating). Many people prefer the old Grimm Hatte for instance, but you can no longer use that since the model was updated.
Mexico.
What's in Mexico?
Mexicans.
Coat looks pretty decent otherwise. Nice job
