Yep, adding non perishable and re readable literature is a bit difficult to the new b42. Adding them properly would require overwriting a couple vanilla functionalities, thats I didn't port the mod to b42 yet

You know, I get the feeling the book stuff isn't too easy. Although I did get the spawning to work

It’s currently on hold - B42’s approach to literature is a bit too hardcoded to simply port this mod over.
It requires a small overhaul and since I’m currently busy working on Project Volga Ural and the revamp of the Post-Soviet Armory mod, it’ll be a while before I can return to this lovely mod of mine.

Any updates on the B42 progress?

There is now a literature mod, a movie mod (VHS), and 4 comic collections including a manga themed one. Yall are amazing lol. I have so many nice collectible mods from diecast cars, figurines, and even paintings. things like this really add incentive to playthroughs, thank you.

As a comic book fan, Thank you. Can I make a recommendation? After you read the comic, instead of it saying Used, can't it say Read or Already Read instead?

That was my initial idea, but it’s not possible. I can use the covers freely, but implementing entire comics with their content isn’t possible due to copyright restrictions, unfortunately.

I’ll rewrite the mod once B42 drops so that the cover art can be viewed in a better format, like the pamphlets in the B42 news. As for the markable checklist, that’s a great idea! I’ll note it down for future updates.

what would be really nice is if I could read them like the pamphlets in build 42

Can view the comic art up close like you can on some trading card mods? also a in-game markable checklist would be great for people hunting down the entire collection.

TWD was published in 2003, so it wouldn’t fit the narrative of the mod.

However, if you want to have TWD comics, there’s a mod just for that: "The Walking Dead Comics" made by TechnoKillerPro.

Maybe you could add The Walking Dead comic?

@Hephaistos, saw your conversation on the Discord - but I can't reply since Chuck blocked access to non verified accounts. Anyway, just move /client/HephasComics.lua into /server/ and it should work. Code in /server/ will still run in SP, but code inside /client/ isn't run by the server.

Update 1.3 "Distribution Rework, Comic Packages & New Comic Series!" is out now!

The distribution system has been completely reworked, new comic packages with random comics inside have been introduced, and a couple of new comic series are joining the loot tables!

I really appreciate the fix, as I had no idea what mod was causing it. It ruined my loot run, but now I know what caused it, it's a huge relief.

With a negative values at the end? Thats odd indeed, nearly 10% should be equal to my declared 0.1 spawn chance.

Im going to take a look at the values and double check it with the MoreLootSettings mod, thanks for pointing it out

I'm using the More Loot Settings mod, if that makes any difference. But the setting for literature items is set to Insanely Rare (x0.05), with a 0.5 chance multiplier. I went into debug LootZed and noticed that a bunch of the comics were at like 9.999% with a negative value at the end, which I thought was a bit odd.

What are your loot settings for literature items?

On insane rare I find one or two comics, plus other vanilla literature items, every three to four houses. Without the mod, other literature items like vanilla comic books and magazines are taking their place instead.

Loot spawns is always really difficult to balance, but the current loot distribution for my comic books is around 0.1 to 0.001. In comparison, the vanilla comic book has a distribution value between 1 and 50, depending on the container.

Hey Hepha, not quite sure why this is the case, cause going off the description you put a lot of work into balancing the spawn rates, but I've got my MP loot settings set to a combination of Insanely/Extremely Rare, and I'm finding these way too commonly throughout houses, schools etc.

The release of that comic was unfortunately in October 2006. It wouldn't fit into the idea of the mod.

Good idea! I'm gonna take a look at that mod.
I want to stay away from bloating up the mod here and adding functionality that won't be necessary in a couple of weeks or a month before B42 hits. But a small compatibility patch could indeed work.
