I'm blessed. Thank you for finding an alternative.
pointemorte. 28 Aug @ 2:02am
since I've found a replacement I forgive you
pointemorte. 28 Aug @ 2:01am
coal expanded has a generic patch that allows coal being used everywhere
pointemorte. 28 Aug @ 1:53am
i see
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 28 Aug @ 1:35am
@pointemorte: Not thinking passive coolers are going to use coal. Not thinking a wood fired heater in a mod I don't use (Furniture Expanded Pack) is going to receive a patch. I don't run vanilla medieval. Stew pots, or any of the rest of what you mention.

This mod never patched for anything you're mentioning in the first place.

Look at the file: patch.owlchemist.simplechains.steel.xml. Have at it and patch yourself silly.
pointemorte. 28 Aug @ 12:37am
passive coolers are ok if you use dubs hygiene which changes requirement from wood to water
pointemorte. 28 Aug @ 12:34am
wood-fired heater ([FM] furniture expanded pack) doesn't work as well
pointemorte. 28 Aug @ 12:32am
darklight + norma hearths (vanilla medieval) don't work too, same thing with passive coolers
pointemorte. 28 Aug @ 12:30am
Stew pot (vanilla expanded), fireplace (rebuild), wall-mounted fireplace (rebuild), darktorches, firepits normal and dark (vanilla expanded), chandelier (owl's simple utilities) don't work
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 27 Aug @ 5:11pm
@pointemorte Fixed. Damned annoying problem. v1.6 Rimworld moved the consumable to the abstract torchbase out of torchlamp. GAH! Also added in wall torch refuel-able with coal now too. Which bug you did NOT catch! So, nah!
pointemorte. 27 Aug @ 3:58pm
(ask for wood when empty)
pointemorte. 27 Aug @ 3:53pm
Coal patches don't work. Checked with base game + dlc + harmony + this mod. Torches etc ask for wood instead of coal

A rare mistake made by Owley (Who I miss!): Bulk traders should now stock/buy/sell Iron.
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 1 Aug @ 1:10pm
@Ghost. No. it doesn't. Just tested it with only this mod. Iron. Just tested it with my 200 other mods i normally use. Iron. You have a compatibility problem. Figure it out.
Yeah but it doesn't affect anything even when it's disabled. Iron ore generated in cliffs still drops steel only with this mod enabled.
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 26 Jul @ 9:30am
So, you have a quarry mod going...?
For some reason, iron ore veins spawn as normal, iron can be mined up out of a Quarry, and I can select coal and Iron Ore to mine.

But Iron Ore drops stacks of steel instead. No clue why. No error, no nothing.
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 13 Jul @ 12:02pm
Fixed Coal: Vein mineable.
Fixed Iron: Now is airtight- in case you ever build a ship with... iron...

Steel: did you dig up the deep found steel? Was it actually steel? Still looking for how this happens.
//SlipperyPete:. 13 Jul @ 10:50am
Could you update Coal so that you can select "Mine Vein" so the entire vein can be mined like all other metals. (This was a feature that became part of the base game after Simple Chains was created. Someone had a fixed version at some point, but I think it's no longer being updated.)

Also, Steel still shows up as a target for mining with the long range scanner, would be great if it could be removed from the list with this mod.
Ser Prinny 30 Jun @ 6:58pm
Oh hey didn't think of that, Vanilla texture expanded works it all right.
//SlipperyPete:. 29 Jun @ 10:35am
Thanks, that actually did work, I had just forgotten to restart the game after making the switch.
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 29 Jun @ 7:36am
Place that mod after this one. Should do that.
//SlipperyPete:. 29 Jun @ 5:23am
Could you update the mod so that if we have vanilla textures expanded, it uses the steel texture from that mod? (looks like a stack of 3 steel bars).
//SlipperyPete:. 29 Jun @ 5:17am
I loved this mod, but this steel texture is terrible, they look like blue gems or something.
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 28 Jun @ 7:29pm
I have not updated this for v1.6 yet, as I'm waiting to see how new ores all work. THis mod replaces steel in the land with iron/coal... and I've not tested that yet.

As to the new graphic. IDK.
Ser Prinny 28 Jun @ 4:23pm
So I tried the mod in 1.6 unstable beta, the sprite for the Steel looks different. Its blueish metal kind of thing that i think i saw it on the new DLC Odyssey preview images.
lol 10 May @ 1:38am
Also, as a less light-weight alternative there's Expanded Materials: Metals https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3333419387
lol 6 May @ 1:32am
The new steel texture looks out of place

Doesn's original Owl's mod still work? https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/workshop/filedetails/?id=1702668415

After some more reasearch on production times of a LOT of other things, further lowered to 600. Update coming very soon.
Eren Iron 8 Feb @ 3:15am
thanks for that
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 7 Feb @ 4:05pm
H. Now that you mention it, I can see the point in that. Since 400 is the worktime in Vanilla to get metal from slag, seems reasonable to make the process in this mod (actually Making STEEL from coal/iron) about 800, since it's a more complicated task. Right now it's 1015 in the mod. I'll lower it to 800.

You got about a 20% discount.

Of course change it at your will if you like. But I do agree, it's a bit steep now.

Give it a few minutes to update.
Eren Iron 7 Feb @ 1:32pm
would it be possible to add a setting to change how much work it takes to refine steel? I like this mod and want to keep using it but the massive amount of time my crafters are spending just refining steel is killing my production
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 1 Jan @ 12:30pm
sorry just saw the question. how low? as in without practically any research- the bloomery.
ashhhh2 25 Nov, 2024 @ 7:16pm
how low? smelting research?
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 25 Nov, 2024 @ 7:16pm
That is not change in this mod at all. Some tools to make steel are in the mod, however- but added at lower tech levels than vanilla.
ashhhh2 25 Nov, 2024 @ 7:13pm
is steel locked behind research in this mod?
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 3 Nov, 2024 @ 11:52am
@FailPail Aye. That patch reads very clean. if you load it and it in any way fails, you should get red text bugs. he didn't force succeed it into silence.
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 3 Nov, 2024 @ 11:51am
@FailPail Aye.
FailPail 3 Nov, 2024 @ 11:50am
but does it work in 1.5?
Dizzy Ioeuy  [author] 3 Nov, 2024 @ 11:40am
That patch is for Vanilla Outposts Expanded to support coal and iron resources in those outposts, right?

I'd feel a little dirty just stealing that modder's patch and including it into this, especially as it already exists and does its job. Looking at his code there's no new way I'd do it other than copy/paste it into this mod, so that's not cool.

All three work together just fine, so far as I can see. His patch doesn't require this mod to exist, it simply adds outpost mining if it detects "Owl_Iron" "Coal" or "WDCoal" which it will with my port of Owlie's mod- since I didn't change defs.

I just wish Owl would come back. Hasn't been on steam at all for months...
gorgantaahst 13 Oct, 2024 @ 10:49pm
Thanks for this update. Love Owl's mods. Most of em are indispensible to me.
tabakista 15 Aug, 2024 @ 2:20pm
Once I switched to this version, steel started to look like blue candies. Any chance to allow us to use old textures? They are much more vanilla-friendly
Arammis Nightbreeze 2 Aug, 2024 @ 8:55am
Appreciate this
Rico 21 Jul, 2024 @ 2:22am
Good job!
