It now prevents assimilation between cultures with same heritage in 1.10.

@EinZwei There should not be a big impact on performance as the number of actual cultures can reduce in some cases, but that only happens in the mid to late game, where other factors also start to impact performance.

It was just a matter of a missing trigger. You should not see any old world cultures getting homelands in the New World and vice-versa (which could also happen).

ive noticed that in colonial areas, some old world cultures would make that a homeland which is the point but my issue is that, take a place like oregon, instead of say english making it a canadian homeland, it becomes english, was that intentional or something you plan to address, or am i just misunderstanding how the mod works,

@Butifarra My goal with the mod was making it possible to have a fair percentage of hyphenated pops where it made sense for that to happen but if the player wants more meaningful conversion than an active effort by means of decrees, incorporating the states and having better citizenship laws is necessary.

@Hadi the mod is mindfull of performance, that is to say that it avoids small pop fragments when assimilating. The vanilla assimilation mechanic will also kick in and consolidate pops of same heritage cultures not in homelands.
Mods that add cultures will always have an impacts on performance, in this case, the best I can say is that the performance hit depends on the game situation.

I've uploaded a major update, reworked the code and how the mechanisms work. There should be more assimilated pops, but if you don't make an active effort, these populations won't really grow much.

I only have "modify homelands" mod, that allows you to remove or add homelands. But it has no assimilation rates modifications.

@Kitsunenoko to assimilate european cultures, you need at least nationalism, some cultures require pan-nationalism. In my latest campaing, in the 1880's, I see substantial amounts of assimilated pops, in the ottoman empire there's some europeans assimilating, but these are indeed small pop fragments. I can look up if there's any bugs in the middle eastern or european assimilation code. However, I see assimilated pops in India and the DEI in the millions so that 900k number looks very low. Do you have any other mods that might be interfering? Something that affects assimilation rates, perhaps?

@Jafose I am trying to assimilate ANYONE, at least SOMEONE for the culture to appear. I have tried it so far with all kinds of laws.
On ottoman run, for example, I had cultural exclusion for like 30 years, then multiculturalism for the rest. With maximum level schools.

None of pops - greeks, serbians, romanians ever assimilated into anything else under turkish rule, only converted.

I tried something more drastic, Capturing around 10mil russian pops as japanese to see if anything would happen. In 50 years - nothing. Cultural exclusion, max schools, no radicalism.

And I know that the mod is on and working, since I can see SOME miniscule amount of pops around the world with "assimilated" trait, but they are like...900k total, all of them combined, in the whole world, by 1900s.

I have so far tested it with japanese, persians abd ottomans, and not in a single game I have ever observed anyone actually assimilating properly, In a full run as ottomans with max SoL, acceptance and workforce, in 70 years, all I have seen is some Afro-tukrish pops. Nothing else.

Good mod, as I'm always tired to set "Hispanophone" trait to my native pops, playing as a Hispanic country (to play fine with Cultural Exclusion. It seems pretty unreal for me to get multiculturalism to accept cultures with homelands, and in the hispanic case, even tried to be assimilated before independence)

I saw on the updates page that this mod had added features from New Homelands though it isn't on the main description. It'd be nice if it was clarified as I went to the New Homelands mod to try to add the two together only to see your comment there as well.

@MiniLord that kind of goes against the ethos of the mod and the whole no-cross heritage assimilation. If you want, you can re-enable it on the defines, as I've changed vanilla assimilation to be slower at higher levels of acceptance anyway. Otherwise, I could script a separate mechanic to allow it to happen just for high acceptance assimilated pops.

@Zuzutu I've been thinking about doing something like this, I might just take New Homelands and expand it to work on cultures that share a non-heritage trait with your primary and I think it makes sense that you need to be on Cultural Exclusion.

This mod is great. At first I didn't think it worked but by mistake I was using it with another mod that affects assimilation which I guess I forgot to turn off. In my recent game I'm seeing the assimilated culture groups pop up a lot which is great. I've always disliked the idea of foreign cultures of other heritages just assimilating into whatever culture no matter how different, but it feels wrong to have no cultural changes at all. This mod is the perfect compromise. Keep up the good work

Are there not hyphenated cultures for central asian pops? I don't see any hyphenated cultures of the same heritage for my Kazach pops in New Mexico.
