I’ve been releasing the houses in the order that they are constructed (which tends to be pretty random lol)
for making the ground, you could also in the future use heightmaps. they are now really easy to work with and you can paint dirt covered with grass as well as 3 different types of stone. heightmaps can also now be made in-editor, so you can paint on surfaces and watch as the heightmap changes in real time. they are used in many maps with similar terrain, along with most teardown maps up until part 2 where they use voxtool, which is similar but requires a lot of knowledge of blender.
1 - I didn't know that was a thing lol. Thanks for the heads up.. Im excited to play with this functionality. With that said, I dont anticipate changing the process for the remaining 3 houses, mainly for consistency.
Overall, I spend very little time with texturing as most of it is just copy/recolors from other houses.
2 - The voxbox textures are deliberately designed with destructibility in mind, which includes a lot of materials mixing.
For example: the standard drywall texture is primarily plaster material, but also has lines of wood material every 12-24 voxels. These wood lines are crucial for the burnability of the houses. Without them, the drywall would prevent the house from fully collapsing.
Unfortunately, i dont anticipate accommodating that request for 3 reasons:
1- dilapidated structures are really beyond my modeling abilities (takes a true artist to make something like that).. occupied/well maintained structures are far easier to build.
2- i know very little about fallout & therefore have very little desire to create something from that ip.
3- once oak street is complete, i want to do something different.. while the houses are enjoyable to build, they are rather monotonous.
My mind is swimming with a bunch of new project ideas to build once oak st is complete & none of those ideas are suburban houses.
@melon_pult - I have a 2nd raised ranch (15 oak st) that will be coming out.. Its similar-ish to 20 oak st, but a bit more open concept & much more updated.. Other than that, I am tentatively planning on a more traditional ranch, but haven't started on it yet. Plans may change, but there is likely to be at least 1.
Regarding the lore, sounds like a fun thing to do! Unfortunately, the lore tends to be rather simplistic. With that said, The upcoming 17 Oak St is my favorite when it comes to lore.
Look at the house interior then explore the unfurnished version..
love your mods so much, any chance you have any ranch houses coming? I literally cannot wait for the next one to come out
Each of these homes actually have a bit of a backstory regarding who lives in them. This house for example, The family is really big into supplementing their income via a bunch of MLMs/pyramid schemes. They are so serious about it that they converted the formal living room into a space to throw sales parties & they converted their spare bedroom into a workshop to store all of the products.
