May I request at least having a spawn option on the dropship at that point or a launcher trooper? As that will make it a bit more manageable if we have a small group of reinforcements. Especially a nuke launcher rocket trooper.

I admit that part was not developed very well, mainly because I had not create any other Bug types for Fleet Command. You need to rush the Plasma bugs with your 2 squads, and have at least 1 squad focusing down the Plasmas while the other squad tries to draw fire and take out warriors. Additionally, you can time your attack with the scripted TAC fighter support that is periodically flying around. The MI squads are expendable, and will trigger success as soon as both plasma bugs are killed.
In the future. I may revise it with plasma grenadiers or a single plasma with royal guard escorts.

Ok, dumb question. I've done every objective properly, except the deploy troopers to the north one. Every time I do, the plasma bugs arrive, and the lack of plasma targeting reticles means I cannot ddr my way out of it. Nor can I afford to leave the trenches as the bugs will just kill the troopers before they can close with the plasma bugs. So, what exactly am I supposed to do?

If the mission fails at the start, it is because you haven't installed SICON Command Mod. This mission requires it to work.
