Got it, tyvm! Yeam looking at the previous comment I suspect I really have sold it but it's not under the correct name so I'll go back and look for it. Also that's probably a "me" issue but for the life of me I can't find the sword..

@Lunitari
THE ACCOUNTANT DIALOG
The only thing you get from the quest is the knowledge that Strahd is located in his crypt...anti-climatic I know. In the module, if treated with kindness, Lief will reveal the location of one of the artifacts (sword, icon or tome), but Madame Eva has already done that for the party...

Room for improvement for sure...

HOLY ICON
The spirit possessing the Holy Icon revealed by Madame Eva gives the Icon to the "first conscious player" as part of the dialog. The icon may appear as a bronze statue or something similar in your inventory despite the fact it is appropriately identified in the item's configuration. There are a couple of locations where spirits unrelated to the quest appear, so make sure you are talking to the right one. They will explicitly state something about giving you an item

@Senor_Biscotti Thanks for the update! Glad you figured out the issue!
Senor_Biscotti 16 hours ago
I found it, it's a bronze statuette named holy icon of ravenloft. I'd sold it to the vendor at the start of ravenloft castle.
It only appeared as a bronze statuette in their inventory but i was just buying every statue i found in case and its name changed back in my inventory
Senor_Biscotti 17 hours ago
@markstaylor68 Is it a random spawn or a given item? also what does it look like, I can travel around and look for it cause i don't know how far back i might have misplaced it, assuming that if i find it i can continue

For future players is it possible to set it as a non-discardable or non-saleable item?
Lunitari 14 Oct @ 3:28pm
This mod is fun but Idk if l missed something or something is broken even after reading the comments. I didn't get anything from the book keeper after returning Aksha's pendant and the icon isn't in my inventory after talking to the spirit? l thought I might've somehow accidentally sold it but went back to the merchant and nope. Any ideas?
markstaylor68  [author] 14 Oct @ 10:00am
@Senor_Biscotti You must have the Icon of Ravenloft in your party's inventory to open Strahd's crypt, the door is HardLocked with the Icon as the specified key item.

If you complete the quest to obtain the icon at some point, it sets a variable flag indicating you have the icon. The dialog at the door is triggered by that variable NOT the actual presence of the icon in the party's inventory; yet as stated above, the door requires the icon to open.

So if you complete the quest and do not pickup or later discard the icon, you will get the appropriate dialog at the crypt door, but you will be unable to open it.

@Fonzosh The module starts with 4 level 1 characters and ends with the characters about levels 6-8
markstaylor68  [author] 14 Oct @ 9:48am
@Maddog PURE The teleport locations in the Spires of Ravenloft map are used to traverse the tower rooms: The players room, the room with the witches, and ultimately the tower tops. When you step into them - the camera doesn't seem to follow your characters

They are party based teleporters so your entire party has to enter the activation area. I do not see any terrain obstructions preventing access...

The map transition sites down to the catacombs my be initially deactivated until certain quests are completed.
markstaylor68  [author] 14 Oct @ 9:35am
@Shadenight123 I did see a potential cause for that issue:

The MobSpawner on the map for Aksha has her broach configured as a drop item; it uses the amethyst gem icon. The possible issue is that the CustomMonster configuration for Aksha had an empty LootPack set for the DroppedItems option. I removed the loot pack drop option and will publish the update; though I could not replicate the error.

Hopefully that will resolve your issue.

I am curious about the 'farewell letter'. To my recollection (and looking through my custom items) I did not create such a thing. It may be a random generated loot.
Senor_Biscotti 13 Oct @ 10:48pm
Hey, I've been playing through this and really enjoying it but i'm now stuck at the entry to what i presume is Strahd's tomb.
I had the text displaying the actions caused by the icon of ravenloft shining it's light, but now I can't open the door, i just get "This door cannot be opened". Am I missing something? I can't see the icon of Ravenloft in my inventory, was it consumed on use or did i get the text without the item? help?
Fonzosh 22 Aug @ 8:49am
Please give more info. What lvl/party size is it intended for?
Vingthor91 18 Jul @ 6:49am
Very cool, got it yesterday and just completed it, i had fun.
Personal notes are:
Roaming the Castle is a bit frustrating being a maze with a lot of uneventful rooms.
Strahd himself could have been a more challenging encounter.
Would be cool to have some more outside content, exploring werewolf and stuff.
Amazing content i personally rate it very high, dropped the Ice DLC for this out of boredom.
Thank you!
Maddog PURE 19 May @ 11:18am
Are the teleporters by the north and south stairs supposed to take you somewhere? I've searched everywhere but I can't access those teleporters.
Shadenight123 14 Apr @ 10:04am
Hey there! Just wanted to say I had a blast playing your mod. However there's a thing where if you strike down Aksha *before* ever meeting her brother, you don't get any sort of pendant (only the farewell letter) and then after talking to her brother the quest starts but cannot be completed.
But with that being said, I am amazed at the level of detail and care that went into this!
BY the way, a minor nitpick: Sergei is called 'sergi' in a lot of places...and then Sergei correctly near the end.
But that being said, you're amazing!
markstaylor68  [author] 25 Mar @ 5:31am
@Willy Sorry for the delay on this. I updated the quest text that incorrectly indicated you had already defeated Strahd which was the description text on that particular step. I reworded the text for that step and the following one to better describe what must be done.

What should happen (how it works) :
1) After you defeat the named mob Strahd von Zarovich - The quest "The Curse" advances a step, updating the variable 'TheFinalAct' to '1'

** quest log should show: "Destroy the Vampire" **

2) After 1 round 6 more zombies (3 per side) should spawn in and an area activator in front of the coffin becomes active. When you step into it, a weakened Strahd 'Vampire' will spawn near the coffin.

I know the activators and detectors can be glitchy in the game itself, but if you encounter the final 6 zombies then the area activator SHOULD be active since they are triggered by the same variable change detector.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to reproduce the error you described.

Warning: I got a bug that prevented me from fighting the final boss. Several other people in the comments are having the same issue. Beware playing this mod until this bug gets fixed.

My quest log says, "Strahd has been defeated, now he must be destroyed," despite my party never having battled him. Pretty sure that's the source of the bug.
Willy Elektrix 31 Jan @ 8:41pm
I had the same issue as Castor. I'm using the Unfinished Business mod in multiplayer, and it crashes whenever I level up the first time upon getting to Barovia. Here is the work around I found: the game host leveled all our characters up in single player. Then we restarted the multiplayer game. The next time we leveled up, the crash bug didn't occur.
Castor 25 Dec, 2024 @ 1:14pm
I would love to play this game but we keep getting a corrupted save every time we lvl up after getting to Bravovia. We are playing with the unfinished business mod so I know its probably the problem. Has anyone else had this issue?
Valorier 2 Nov, 2024 @ 9:33am
Hello !
In the tavern, after the bartender refers us to someone by the fireplace, that someone is facing a chair, making the party unable to converse with them.
Amazing so far, but this completely stops the progression.
Please help ! :steamhappy:

Thx a lot ! This is a good conversion and a very good game moment spent with a friend. More than 10 hours spent in the castle, very cool !
markstaylor68  [author] 25 Sep, 2024 @ 3:31pm
@joehermsen Greetings! Once you kill the vampire which is meant to be basically Strahd's final gasp - then the quest is completed and the end sequences should proceed...

Not sure what you mean when you say you 'cannot defeat the vampire'. Is he too tough, you can't find him? he's not spawning?

He should spawn directly behind the casket and be significantly weaker then his prior incarnation. The mob may or may not move out to engage. If a character is standing in the square in which he is suppose to spawn, I am not sure if that will prevent him from appearing.
joehermsen 20 Jul, 2024 @ 10:16am
I found my way to the catacombs and defeated Strahd, but now I cannot defeat the vampire, although I killed everything in the catacombs. is it over?
joehermsen 18 Jul, 2024 @ 7:51am
help! I can't find the way to the catacombs.
markstaylor68  [author] 16 Jul, 2024 @ 3:53am
@FrothyDV AWESOME! I am glad you are enjoying the adventure!

I tried to get my daughter who is big into World of Warcraft to play but she wasn't that interested! Too different and not "flashy" enough.

Unfortunately - there is no way back to the village after entering the castle. My apologies on that and on the fact that I cannot give you a clear answer on what content came from which DLC as I didn't see it identified when using Dungeon Maker.

Good Luck!
markstaylor68  [author] 16 Jul, 2024 @ 3:49am
@Hungarian Carrion - The Catacombs location is unavailable until one of the following conditions is met:

1) The party obtains the Icon of Ravenloft
2) Madame Eva reveals the location of "The Key" (Icon of Ravenloft) as being in a "Knight's Tomb"

Recall Strahd said in his journal he will "...seal shut the stairs [ to the Catacombs]...so that none may disturb me". Only the power of the Holy Icon can break his spell and allow entrance to the catacombs.

I'll see if I can add some dialog indicating you are missing an item or something to that affect.
FrothyDV 7 Jul, 2024 @ 4:35am
@markstaylor68 Thanks so much for making this campaign. My sons and I have been having a blast playing it with a 3 player party (UB mod). So far we've found that balance of challenge to be just right - and everything engaging.

Unfortunately I missed your comment "Settings and items from 'The Lost Valley' and 'Ice Palace' are used." We only have the base game - so I'm surprised it let us start the campaign. Surprisingly the campaign has run totally fine so far. The only oddness we've found is that some saved games can't be loaded with the "Missing DLC" error. However, if we go to some locations before saving, we can load from there. Unsure if we'll be able to finish the campaign this way. we're level 5 now at the Chapel. With any luck we'll be able to get back to the town store to save the game after each major accomplishment. :D

Appreciate your efforts on this enjoyable campaign. I suggest mentioning the DLC in the description as well. Thanks again!

Hi markstaylor68 we have the stones we have the brosh we have it in the hosts inventory in a bag of holding, however the last set of stairs is Geyered out and we can't proceed. Please advise Thank you in advance

@Caveira

The golems drop stones that allow you to open the door.
markstaylor68  [author] 23 Jun, 2024 @ 7:40am
@Blackacid & @Jork
I see the confusing text in the quest log - that's a typo. Sorry for the confusion.

One thing I did notice is that the Catacombs location is available by default which was not intended to be the case. It shouldn't cause any issues other than if you approach Strahd's door without the icon, you simply get the standard message telling you you can't open the door - nothing fancy.
markstaylor68  [author] 22 Jun, 2024 @ 1:20pm
@Blackacid & @Jork

Interesting issue about not letting you in the tomb.
There is a dialogue activation at the door of the tomb which assumes you have the icon - else how would you be where you are. After the text, the door is hard locked with the key being the icon itself. I'll try to reproduce the error.

If you were teleported into Strahd's tomb by a trap - that may have affected the sequencing. I admit I haven't tried that in my play throughs

I can't imagine how you would have an older version but make sure you have ver. 4.5
markstaylor68  [author] 22 Jun, 2024 @ 1:00pm
@Penitent Pilgrim & @Blackacid

Aksha should have dropped her broach "Aksha's Broach" which is represented as an amethyst gem. You should be able to present it to Lief immediately after obtaining the quest to complete it.
I'll check on that to make sure she and Lief are working correctly
markstaylor68  [author] 22 Jun, 2024 @ 12:51pm
@Brightsoul

Balancing is always tough...Divine Resistance makes sense as it is certainly something Strahd would inherently seek to cultivate - good suggestion!
markstaylor68  [author] 22 Jun, 2024 @ 12:43pm
Greetings! Glad you guys like the adventure! The original module was one of my all time favorites.

BUG NOTES:
Item Locations:
The locations of all the named items: The Sunsword, Icon of Ravenloft and Tome of Strahd all spawn randomly with each playthrough. I don't believe any of them spawn in unreachable places - e.g. the Icon spawning in the crypts which requires you to have the icon to gain access.

Pay attention to the cards Madame Eva presents as they give clues to the location for each item.

Strahd Spawning behind the coffin:
Its the NPC I chose to customize for the 'defeated' Strahd. It doesn't seem to come out to engage. I'll fix that. Good suggestion for boosting his resistance.
Caveira 13 Jun, 2024 @ 6:41pm
Heya... I've been playing with a friend this awesome campaign but we hit a wall... we explored everything, but haven't been able to find the icon... in the last set of stairs from the Iron Golems does not activate for us to go up the 20feet... Is this a bug?
Penitent Pilgrim 7 May, 2024 @ 7:55pm
Another bug, Strahd still hides behind the coffin and doesn't join the final fight, we walked over and killed him with Spirit Guardian from a safe distance.

Never found the Sunsword.
Penitent Pilgrim 7 May, 2024 @ 4:19pm
Got a bug, I just got the quest to free Aksha from Lief Lipsiege. I already killed Aksha a few days ago but there doesn't seem to be a way to let him know that and finish the quest.
Brightsoul 30 Apr, 2024 @ 7:05am
Just completed a full playthrough on Scavenger ("hard") difficulty. Enjoyed it very much.

Quite easy even on Scavenger. But this allowed more focus on exploration of the excellent maps and castle layout. Since it all builds to Strahd, the final battle should be harder...

We can assume every party has the Sunsword and shouldn't be fighting in the dark. Strahd was dead before the second wave of zombies. Then he re-spawned behind the coffin so he couldn't immediately rejoin the fight. I'd have him re-spawn on the room side of the coffin and give Strahd 50% resistance to Divine damage so he can't be two-rounded by a hasted Paladin using the Storm Giant Strength potion.

I like that there's no way back to town. But I would add to the vendor at Ravenloft: 4 rings of darkvision and 4 sets of boots of striding. Those items even out the racial disparities related to light and move speed to level the playing field. Overall I liked being forced to adapt to the items acquired through conquest.
Blackacid 7 Apr, 2024 @ 7:35am
Just finished it, definitely enjoyed it and Strahd did indeed appear despite the journal bug.

Spoilers

Strahd appeared in his tomb and immediately resurrected upon death, but didnt rejoin the battle. I'm wondering if this is a bug to do with the journal entry bug I've mentioned.

Another bug was that I killed the vampire wife before speaking with the accountant, and had no way to inform him of her demise. I had to reload, speak to him first, and then go kill the vampire wife.
Blackacid 7 Apr, 2024 @ 12:15am
As soon as we got into the castle we got "Strahd has been defeated, now he must be destroyed" as a quest update. So, seconding Jorks issue.

Why is this happening?
Vurg 26 Mar, 2024 @ 7:16pm
Where do you find the Sunsword? I think I've explored the whole castle, found multiple hidden doors, searched Sergi's tomb, etc. but the quest hasn't been ticked yet and I can't enter what I assume is Strahd's tomb.
markstaylor68  [author] 18 Mar, 2024 @ 9:53pm
@Geek_Haven No, it does not have the Curse of Strahd content. This is a recreation of the first Ravenloft adventure that started the franchise from which Curse of Strahd later branched off. It consists of the settings for the Village of Barovia and Castle Ravenloft itself.

It does however add some content from the book I Strahd: The Memoirs of a Vampire by P.N. Elrod regarding the story lines surrounding the wedding of Tatyana and Sergi and the murder of the later by Strahd himself to seal his pact with death and become the Vampyre.
markstaylor68  [author] 18 Mar, 2024 @ 9:47pm
@tcpipnut Good suggestion on identifying the stairs - however I didn't want to leave an air of mystery about them. As my DM used to say when we would ask question such "where do these stairs go?". Aside from the 'famous' line from Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman in the first Ghostbusters movie "They go up", he would generally retort with "who are you asking?? The walls?"
All that to say - the characters wouldn't know where the stairs are going other than up or down
markstaylor68  [author] 18 Mar, 2024 @ 9:42pm
@Roger Moore (a.k.a. 007)

I honestly don't know what items/mobs came from which expansions as I don't recall them being identified by expansion in the selection gallery windows. I grabbed what I liked the look of without consideration of which expansion it may have come, but that turned out to bite me when trying to publish and accurately determine what expansions were required. Not sure what happens if you try to play it without...<crosses fingers>
Slynx Jewel 8 Mar, 2024 @ 1:40am
@Geek_Haven but curse of strahd is a "remaster" if the original i7 adventure... no? XD
Geek_Haven 7 Mar, 2024 @ 2:43am
Hi, just wanted to check. Does this module contain everything from Curse of Strahd module? That is Death House, Amber Temple, That yaga swamp village, that abbey in mountain with mutated humans, and that town with silly ''happy'' celebrations? or just particular parts of that module?
Jork 2 Mar, 2024 @ 11:51am
First off, excellent mod. I have had a lot of fun playing through it, and it was lovely exploring something so familiar in Solasta's engine.

Unfortunately, I have encountered an issue at the final hurdle that has prevented me from confronting Strahd in his tomb after the text-cutscene with the Icon where it glows and opens the door. Trying to open the door simply gives me a message telling me it cannot be opened. I also note that my quest log says "Strahd has been defeated, now he must be destroyed" despite my party never having battled him.

I'm conscious that the issue might be something on my end given that no-one else has reported it, but I thought I should at least post anyway.
tcpipnut 1 Mar, 2024 @ 9:11pm
Thanks for the awesome module. I loved it! I could have leveled to 8 at the end but I was busy in the final battle. Advancing time to night with short rests worked well to help set the atmosphere. All the stairs were a bit confusing. My only suggestion would be to label them with their destination instead of up/down XX feet. I don't know if that's possible but it would have helped me not feel lost. Maybe I was supposed to feel lost.
Roger Moore 26 Feb, 2024 @ 12:39am
hello .
i feel the base game is best and theres no need for expansions other than modules.
in saying that.
Is there any way of playing this module without the inner strength exp?
markstaylor68  [author] 22 Feb, 2024 @ 7:31am
Thank you for the kind words in the comments! Glad you enjoyed the adventure!
