I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. They didn't ask me to copy plenty of ideas from my CS2/CSGO versions, but they wouldn't be the first (many rip offs are made, very few people actually ask for permission ...)
Yes Squall was on board with me doing a CS2 version of fy_pool_day from the beginning because he liked the CSGO version I made 13 years ago.
When I finished it, I received a few feedbacks from Squall but overall he was happy with it. I then released the map and made him a co-creator of the map, so when Valve reached us out he was already part of the process.
Valve does not own the map, it's ours (the CS2 version), but we have a use agreement contract with them.
fy_pool_day's copyright is owned by Squall, I just made the CSGO and CS2 versions with his approval.
Ideally when your work is based on a map from someone else, it's better to ask for permission. You should try to ask him, I don't see why he wouldn't be happy to have more fan-made projects like this one :)
I'm asking because of wanting to make another map based on CS 1.6 pool_day and want to know if that is that ok? Was a pool_day license given to Valve when pool_day was put in CS2?
CS 1.6......
Maybe you remember some spin-off versions of the map, like CS:S ones ?
We need more fy maps ports in CS2. Thank you for this!
I can't give details on how things work with Valve, we have a contract that lets them decide to continue running the map on their servers or not.
I don't know what is more profitable for them. Even though Pool_day works nicely for Arms Race, it's nowhere close to what Anubis or Cache were to the game when they bought the rights for these :)
So idk what the future holds, but i feel very lucky and grateful that people enjoy and play on this map daily!
It's been there since the beginning, I reported it to Valve but it's so minor that it has not been taken care of yet.
So for Pool day, the folder is 3070923343 (you can find the ID in the URL)
