if you die do you still have the music or do you need to practice and learn it again

This is just an add-on, your issue is caused by the mod itself. If I have to guess, when you practice the mod randomly plays songs that you know, so you'd have to modify the mod files and exclude the songs you don't want.

would there be a way to not have these tracks play during instrument practice? They're great tracks, but it's a little jarring going between the stock calm songs and sudden hard metal riffs at double the volume

Anyone willing to update the mod for B42 has my blessing. I've long stepped away from Zomboid so probably won't be doing it myself.

Not sure. This is just an addon for the Lifestyle: Hobbies mod, so I imagine if that one works then this should do as well, unless B42 causes major changes to Lifestyle: Hobbies.

Reading the FAQ on the Lifestyle Development Discord, you now have to use the "practice" feature and you will learn new songs (both from the mod and addons) randomly. Personally, I find this to be an incredibly stupid change because it effects save files where you might already have a high music level, and the only thing you can do about it, is change the learning chance to very easy in the sandbox settings and fast forward for a few days until you learn all the songs you want. Hope this helps

When I play the electric guitar the only option is "Practice Electric Guitar", no option to choose any of these songs appear, even though I have level 2 in music. What gives?
PS: I do have a lot of different Lifestyle Hobbies music addons installed, is that why?

No idea brother. I've not touched the mod since 2.0 and it still works fine for me. My guess is that some sort of mod conflict causes it.

When I play Never fade away as a song (not a practice) it cuts after 30 seconds or st. What could be the cause of that?

(I personally prefer the older one, but that me. I'm a fan of the tabletop version so since the earlier one Kerry plays in Johnny's memory uses the original tabletops lyrics, I tend to prefer that)
