People tend to cry about paint regions being on anything that isn't tiny now, pretty much every person I've seen with that argument haven't elaborated onto it much beyond the simple fact that it can be slightly distracting or confusing due to it adding another color to the mercenary, especially if it's a brighter or more saturated color. That's much more of an issue with paints being added in the first place though, and adding more paintable cosmetics is not going to expand upon that issue in any real way.
