This one took a while and I like it more in hindsight ;-P That precise moment of the cube swap wasn't obvious for a long time, though I knew it couldn't be solved without it.
Solved it as intended.

Forgot to comment on this one when I played it a year ago. A map that was ahead of its time. Deep logic packed in 2014. Fantastic.

@Mevious Thanks for playing my map! Glad you like it :)

I'll fix the fizzler issue today. Been meaning to years ago, but I forgot. Thanks for reminding me!

I used to go by the name Toothless2603, if that rings a bell. I changed it in... I think 2016? You definitely played a few of my maps a long time ago, so if you end up playing those couple, you might recall them. Thanks for the favourite, and I hope you enjoy my other maps :p2cube:
Mevious 7 Mar, 2021 @ 2:30pm
Excellent puzzle! Getting so much use out of so few pieces is so satisfying. There are also several revelations throughout the process, for example, "Oh that's how I get the other cube into the laser room." "Do I really need to go up through a ceiling portal?" "The lightbridge in the laser room is actually important !"

One minor complaint, I ended up using the fact that you can walk along the edge of the horizontal fizzler's edge when jumping back down from the second cube dropper. I honestly couldn't tell if this was a required step or not. I see now that it isn't required and actually doesn't help that much, but I'd still recommend removing it as a possibility.

Apparently I am already following you, but can't remember if you were going by a different name years ago. Favorited this one, and I'll play your others.

@Bullfrog That is very kind of you to say! Wonderful to see someone revisiting my map :p2cube:

This still a brilliant puzzle and still deserves to be in my list of favourites.

@Teo Glad to hear you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing my map :)

Wow! I loved that so much :D So many complex sequences forced in such a simple looking layout. Great work

Fun map. Thumbs up. I definitely wouldn't call it "Very Hard" though.
Hazellius  [author] 25 May, 2018 @ 6:55pm
@Steve3Dx Thanks for playing my map! It's definitely one of my longer maps. I'm glad to hear you still enjoyed it despite the length :)
As for making more maps, I've been wanting to make many more. Unfortunately life has been getting in the way for quite a while now. Hopefully soon things die down a bit for me to get back into the swing of things ^^
Hazellius  [author] 25 May, 2018 @ 6:49pm
@bullfrog Thanks for the thumbs up and favourite and stuff. Glad to hear you enjoyed my map that much ^^
As for the video you provided, that's definitely unintended. I'll get around to fixing that when I can :)
Steve3Dx 23 May, 2018 @ 2:01pm
great map, took me a littile too long but i finally got the intended solution. keep on making maps if your still into this game becuase your maps are very good
bullfrog 23 May, 2018 @ 3:01am
Superb logic puzzle and excellent design. I was making progress, but one bit I did looked wrong, so I checked your video up to that point – yep, wrong move! It then took me some time to slowly work through it, but never felt bored or frustrated. Definite thumbs up, added to favourites and now also following :)

@Ifairban Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Thanks for playing :)

Great puzzle. It took me a while to figure out. The way it crated a veriety of alternaives and restrictions was quite interesting.

@Hazellius. I am constantly amazed that Portal works, in the sense of the graphics for one thing, but more so in the sense of the underlying portal logic, the physics of it. I get so used to portalling around the rooms, I sometimes forget I can't actually do that in real life (yet). I think it was created out of some genius of insight.
Hazellius  [author] 6 Jun, 2017 @ 10:43am
@metadavid Portal definitely seems to be a game that puts up a really strong fight against the law of diminishing returns. I feel like the deep mechanics of the game won't be exhausted of interesting new approaches for a long time to come :)
metadavid 5 Jun, 2017 @ 5:17pm
@Hazellius this is a really clever puzzle. Thank you! I enjoyed pondering on it more than most maps I have played. The one way aspect is a great construct to be restricted by. I spent quite a long time on it convinced I would solve it, then in moment of frustration I resorted to watching your solution. Even then I still had to look carefully to see what you had done. I'm not sure I would have solved that.
In a way it is straightforward yet I didn't figure it out. I have a bittersweet experience of enjoyment at your design, and failure at not being able to get it. I guess that's a good result?! There is some consolation seeing the masters at work; toncica, cyhborg and p0rtalmaster commenting as they are figuring it out, (I bet that doesn't happen very often :steamhappy:) then upgrading it to 'hard' after you foiled their unintended solutions.
I am amazed that after playing Portal for 5 years I enjoy it as much as ever, and have not found a game I like more.
jandlml 25 Apr, 2017 @ 10:22pm
i got the right solution this time. great map!
jandlml 25 Apr, 2017 @ 6:40pm
i will give it a try. see if i can solve it this time
Hazellius  [author] 25 Apr, 2017 @ 3:38pm
Update! The map has been patched to fix an exploit that jandlml found. The solution video has been updated too :)
jandlml 17 Apr, 2017 @ 6:21pm
ok i did it. im sure i did it the same way as i did before
jandlml 17 Apr, 2017 @ 5:53pm
oh ok i remember playing this one but i have to go back and figure out what i did again. may take awhile.
jandlml 17 Apr, 2017 @ 5:46pm
let me play it again and see if i get the same solution
Hazellius  [author] 16 Apr, 2017 @ 11:41pm
@jandlml I still can't figure out what you managed to exploit in my map. I sent you a friend request because I'd really like to play a version of this map with you that has co-op. Then I can observe what you do and fix whatever you found :)
jandlml 16 Mar, 2017 @ 3:08pm
i used the funnel under the fizzler launched into it. once i got to the top just respawned the other cube. and then out. hope this makes more sense
jandlml 16 Mar, 2017 @ 3:07pm
no i never took the second cube out of the laser beam area . i used it without a portal. i pointed it at the activator that drops the funnel. then i used portals to bring the other one in and then i used the first cube to block the beam and aim it at the activator for the bridge. then i came back around got up to the top.put a portal at the surface behind the activator for the funnel. then jumped down the otherside put a portal under the fizzler grabbed the first cube. went back and put a portal on the funnel. used the laucher to get both me and the cube to the top.
Hazellius  [author] 16 Mar, 2017 @ 2:32pm
@jandlml From your description, it sounds like you found this solution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyczuqZcSZE
Is this what you meant, or did you find something else?
jandlml 15 Mar, 2017 @ 9:18pm
hope that description makes sense. the comments wouldnt allow it all in one thing
jandlml 15 Mar, 2017 @ 9:16pm
jump down use the surface under the fizzler to get first cube. this lets the funnel go. now i use the funnel to take me and the first cube up to the second cube dropper. respawn that cube and i can exit now great map really a thinker.
jandlml 15 Mar, 2017 @ 9:14pm
i dont think im able to make a video but i can try to describe what i did. lets see i basically did the same thing to get up to the second cube. once i got up there i set it up to turn the bridge on. than i took the first cube over to the floor surface just left it for know. wwent back up to the second cube dropper area. ok then i put a portal on the surface across from the laser beam. went back down got the first cube put a portal under the fizzle wall took the cube to the laser beam area. ok i set the cubes up so the second cube is pointing from where the laser beam originates to the funnel activator. and the first cube i keep on the side where the portal surface is. i use it to aim at the bridge activator. then i just go back around go up to the second cube dropper area make a portal on the surface opposite the beam.
Hazellius  [author] 15 Mar, 2017 @ 7:57pm
@jandlml Thank you for playing! Any possibility you could show me what you did with a solution video or a description of what you did? I'm very curious as to how you solved it :)
jandlml 15 Mar, 2017 @ 7:39pm
been playing some excellent maps today, this is definitely one of them. i watched the videos after i played. i did not get the intended solution. i think the way i did it was much simpler. i didnt use throwing or ninja moves either
Hazellius  [author] 6 Sep, 2016 @ 11:23am
@libbybapa Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for playing :)
Talisac 7 Oct, 2014 @ 2:13pm
Awesome map, with crual puzzle (but when you have no other choice, solution comes by itself :) ) . There are so many steps needed to make the whole puzzle advance very little further.. Fav'
Hazellius  [author] 26 Aug, 2014 @ 10:46pm
@Piranha.A Thanks for the video. Camerson1313 had already informed me about that exploit about a week ago, but I didn't bother to fix it because I'd say people can tell that's unintended. I want to fix it now to make the chamber a bit less questionable as people seem to have an easier time finding the exploits rather than the intended solution, but that'll have to wait until the competition I send this map to has ended. Fascinating glitch though... never seen anything like it...
Innocentive 26 Aug, 2014 @ 9:16pm
Hi Toothless2603! I found a way of passing that fizzler with the cube slightly different to Prototype's exploit: video . You'll also see a weird glitch. Apart from that the chamber appears to be a good puzzle. Will have to return to find the intended solution :)
Hazellius  [author] 23 Aug, 2014 @ 6:27pm
@Prototype Thanks for the blindrun. It's very useful. As you said, it's not intended. It's a fairly difficult chamber, but it doesn't require cube throwing or ninja moves. I should've patched that exploit and polished some more stuff when I had the chance, but sadly, I'll have to wait after this competition has ended.
Prototype 23 Aug, 2014 @ 6:02pm
My blindrun , part of it is probably not intended and sounds similar to what LPChip did.
Hazellius  [author] 20 Aug, 2014 @ 4:43pm
@LPChip Interesting way to get the cube up there , that's for sure :)
I probably should've made that angled panel more clear as you're not the only one to have trouble getting that piece. I'll keep both that and the difficulty in mind for the next chamber I'll create. I hope you still had fun playing my map.
LPChip 20 Aug, 2014 @ 2:52am
Okay, watched the video, that fling getting the first cube back definitely makes this map a 7/10 difficulty. Far outside of my skill level right now.
LPChip 20 Aug, 2014 @ 2:45am
I was unable to solve the puzzle any other way, but gave up. Will check your video now for the actual solution.
LPChip 20 Aug, 2014 @ 2:45am
I was finally able to solve the map, but I had to resort to cube throwing. I got the upper cube to point across into the other cube which pointed into the lightbridge on the left side of the fizzler. Went all around, did the fling again to get a portal in that fling ditch and the bottom area. Grabbed the cube with me. Took the faithplate and before reaching the 2nd faithplate I released the cube. The cube landed on the grate nearby. I flang up to the spawn of the upper cube, and fell down to the grating. Took the cube and cubethrown it up to the upper area. Respawned the other cube to get both to the exit.
LPChip 20 Aug, 2014 @ 1:48am
Toncica helped me. Somehow I completely missed the portable panel both in the ditch when you use the faithplate and the one ontop of the angled panel that blocks the funnel. I seem to be making progress.
Hazellius  [author] 19 Aug, 2014 @ 10:26pm
@LPChip Here are 2 hints that might give you progress:
Hint 1: There are two ways to get back up on the upper floor
Hint 2: One is with the funnel, the other is by flinging
If I'm being honest, this test chamber is going to be quite a pain for you if you haven't been able to get back on the upper floor with the limited stuff you get in the beginning. The map gets much more complicated. Don't feel bad to ask for more hints or checking the solution video I provided.
