Beautiful creation! btw are you Turkish?

Hey, I finally did my reupload! After I extended the cockpit and got rid of the 'platypus' look. Here's the link to it: https://gtm.steamproxy.vip/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3174095742

If you ever update this again, I recommend adding another throttle in the cockpit connected to some hotkeys and add its output, simple adders will work, to the nacelle pivots. I just did this and it adds a nice new option to the basic flight mode and allows a smoother transition to the forward flight mode. Switching flight modes with the nacelles already tilted forward doesn't seem to cause a problem.

nice let me know when you upload
The Nameless 3 Mar, 2024 @ 7:39pm
I've done it! I made it float! I completely redid the cockpit exterior. I beat windows! Stormworks windows, not windows the operating system. Nobody beats windows the operating system. Anyway, I still haven't reuploaded it... I might have another go at smoothing out the slope transitions first. It totally looks like a platypus and I'm not sure how much I like that. I guess for now I'll call mine Perry.

lol

Also winches. Polish and winches. It may not be able to fit jeeps inside anymore, but as much extra power as it has, I expect it will be able to winch up the NPC tanker ships and drop them in the volcano. Ah. I mean, it should be able to do transport missions. Yeah. No volcano. Scout's honor. Does that count if I was never a scout?
The Nameless 1 Mar, 2024 @ 9:21pm
I may actually do that, thanks! I have yet to upload anything because actually shaping hulls (and especially windows) is so head-hurting I've only ever modified other people's work. But I did put a lot into this one, even if I did build from what you already had. Just needs some polish I think.

very cool.happy to help. Feel free to uplod it to workshop if you want to. just put a link to this in description please

Hey thanks for all your help by the way. :) I think I like how it turned out. I finally got what I wanted: a steam-powered helicopter with a really long range. I'm sure they'll fix the negative fuel burn glitch someday, but it should still go quite awhile on one tank.
The Nameless 1 Mar, 2024 @ 2:20pm
Also it looks like I'll be coming home with more fuel than I started with, just like the Troll. I wonder wtf is up with that. :P I mean it's a good exploit, but not one I used on purpose. :P And despite the short exhaust pipe, there is STILL no smoke from the furnace! I may as well just use an electric furnace and forget fuel.
The Nameless 1 Mar, 2024 @ 2:17pm
Nevermind, I was wrong. I think I found a good balance. It just doesn't FEEL like I did because the throttle's at like 0.13. I think a total of sixteen medium electric motors produce quite a lot of horsepower. I also got the altitude hold to work, although it climbs quite a bit before it stabilizes. Seeems that I accidentally deleted the altimeter too. Oh, and I did need to put torque sensors on each shaft to feed it an RPS reading before it would let the clutch go so the rotors could spin. :P
But Hull  [author] 1 Mar, 2024 @ 2:13pm
maybe try to reduce the rps with gearboxes so you dont stall
The Nameless 1 Mar, 2024 @ 2:06pm
I have to take it all the way down to where it stalls for that to work. :P I mean it does work, but it doesn't seem right that It's not willing to descend when it has the ability to climb.
But Hull  [author] 1 Mar, 2024 @ 7:59am
maybe reduce your rps when you want to descend. toomuch rps is probably the reason
The Nameless 1 Mar, 2024 @ 7:49am
Oh yeah on the bright side, I also got it to fly. It likes to climb and doesn't like to descend very much, I'd appreciate any tips you might have on adjusting that. It had the same problem when I flew your version, although at least with yours the altitude hold worked. I'm not sure if I disconnected an input it needed or if my system just overpowered it. :P I need to adjust the throttle sensitivity.
The Nameless 1 Mar, 2024 @ 7:47am
Ok, I got the back end to float. But now I'm stuck. WINDOWS EFFING SUCK.
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 7:53pm
Yeah, actually I checked the fuel tank and found it was empty. As I had accidentally deleted the spawner already. Then I checked the fresh water tank I've added and turned its spawner to zero. So it wound up empty. And everything else was full of water. :P I partitioned off the back area where the cargo doors used to be because that seemed like a good candidate, and both sides of the partition were full. That's really the only thing I can divide without deleting... actually I can just delete my steam engine and save it separately to try to find the leaks. I'd suspect it's more of a seam... anyway I want to power test my engine first, so I'm gonna trawl my way to the arctic and buy the airbase up there. Then I'll try again.
But Hull  [author] 29 Feb, 2024 @ 6:49pm
you sure you didnt put a hole in the fuel tank because then it will fill the entire thing. i think it was on the roof maybe try to delete the fluid spawner there
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 6:35pm
Well, except the bunk room and sickbay.
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 6:34pm
I tried that. They all did.
But Hull  [author] 29 Feb, 2024 @ 6:23pm
very nice. you can dived the water proof are into multiple sections and see which one gets flooded
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 6:22pm
Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly what's doing it. The problem is finding the damn thing, when at the moment I've already deleted everything that doesn't look like any other block.. :P

Anyway right now it's back to trawling. I got the old Troll III converted into a trawler to use Zizo's mod. I turned it into a steamer too. I remodeled it to drop hoppers into the water out of a hole in its underside; I never have to leave the bridge to fish with it. And it can hold, unless I missed something or did something wrong on the calculator, 57,258 fish. As if I'd have the patience to catch that many, even with each 'net' bringing in 648. But it's nice to know I "could", in theory.
But Hull  [author] 29 Feb, 2024 @ 5:52pm
there might be a xml block somewhere they are not waterproof
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 3:59pm
Ooooookay, I'm stumped. It sinks. Since the vehicle bay is full of steam engine, I wasn't going to need that, so I sealed it off. Or so I thought. But it's open to the ocean somehow. I merged everything. There are no holes, no gaps. I've looked everywhere. But somehow, it always spawns full of ocean and sinks. Except this time but only because I stuffed the back end full of floaties. But it's still full of water and I can't test it. The cockpit is too, but I'm betting that's because of whatever you did to stretch the side windows like that. But I can't figure out wtf is causing what is now the engine bay to not be sealed. :P I guess it can't be amphibious for the moment, so testing it will have to wait until I buy something other than the harbor base.
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 3:41pm
You never ran into any while using it? I found out about it the hard way. I had put that old Ceres steam airship into a workable condition (with an electric furnace, so the only resource I used was fresh water; I vented my steam and periodically had to use desalinators to refill, so it's pretty well broken now) and was hauling a cargo container from the south island up to the Arctic when I got struck. Suddenly I fell into the ocean and it took me a minute to figure out wtf happened. Luckily everything was already on circuit breakers, so the hard part was finding the cargo container again. :P

So if you don't know, then the answer is, no, it won't help if I get hit by lightning. :P Circuit breakers it is.
But Hull  [author] 29 Feb, 2024 @ 3:07pm
never tested with lightning
But Hull  [author] 29 Feb, 2024 @ 3:06pm
it has been a while but i dont think you need rps. lol thats funny
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 3:06pm
Oooh, and you ran all the power through a hardpoint connector? I mean that's convenient in a way, but does it keep you from falling out of the sky when lightning hits you? If not, I need to undo aaaaaaallll the power connections and run them through circuit breakers...
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 3:00pm
Do I need to put a torque sensor on them and give something an RPS reading? And yeah, too little will be a problem. Too much and I can just throttle them down. I wish I had a laser weapon to put on it, to use all the extra power this thing will put out. I also hope the devs fix the industrial furnaces soon. I don't mind that they seem to generate fuel instead of burning it when you keep the damper low, but it irks me that they don't make any oily black smoke anymore. How is anybody supposed to know I'm not an environmentalist without black smoke?!
But Hull  [author] 29 Feb, 2024 @ 2:39pm
even tho i never tested this and i cant say if 4 electric motors will be too little too much or just right but it should work. it uses engine rotation and propeller values to fly.
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 2:34pm
Each rotor will be powered by four medium electric motors, that's what would fit inside the nacelles without me having to fool around much with hull shapes. So you're saying I can just connect their control input to a throttle, and as long as I've managed not to delete any important microcontrollers when I cleared all the cargo gear out of the back bay, your setup should adapt?
But Hull  [author] 29 Feb, 2024 @ 2:23pm
as long as rotors have power it should work
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 1:44pm
Hypothetically, if I wanted to build a steam engine generator into it and run the rotors with electric motors, what would I have to adjust in the microcontrollers? ... assuming I find quite enough room in there to do that, and it doesn't weigh so much it simply fails to lift off anyway, of course.
But Hull  [author] 29 Feb, 2024 @ 1:39pm
Hope you enjoy it
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 1:18pm
Cool. I... don't think I actually use any land vehicles small enough to fit inside it, but I'm sure I can do something with all that room. xD
But Hull  [author] 29 Feb, 2024 @ 6:35am
it should
The Nameless 29 Feb, 2024 @ 6:33am
Does this still work after the space update?
